So yeah, Kedders indicates that Ireland is not free - well derp.

However, what annoys me is this...
Mr Kenny suggested the long-term unemployed should "get off the couch" and get back to work.

But he insisted he was referring to those who are genuinely frustrated and want to find a job.

What about the real LONG TERM dolies eh - I'll save that for another thread...

All well and good though mind you - At least a feeble attempt is made on tackling Ireland's unemployment rate...

    Baby steps as they say.

i hear that the unemployment level for Ireland has always been 14.2% and all those lazy bastards never worked a day in their lives even during the boom when our unemployment rate was sub 3%

In short shove your condescending crap up your over payed ass

Nice bit of class warfare going on there. Plant the image of unemployed people lazing around on the couch and imply there are actually jobs for them to go to.
We need to redirect people's anger at other people so Pat Rabbit can have a pint in peace.

Funny thing is, there are some form of jobs here - If you want to work, then you'll take anything. I know I have..

Flip side of it is, My understanding of his statement is that the sit at home all day couch people WHO ARE looking for jobs are... This should be aimed at the lazy sh!tes who aren't even making an attempt at doing something with their lifes..

Slash their dole by half.. That will sort it.

The genuine people who are looking for work .. give them time.

I should be elected as The Big T - I've have this country sorted in 2 days! :)

Somebody has to be unemployed. It might as well be those who enjoys it.

There has always been the 3% and they will never work or are unemployable. The rest were working during the boom and would work again if they could. Kenny is a jammy fool. Even his own party could not keep a straight face when questioned on his competence during the party heave before the election. The only reason he won was Noonan and Reilly and other old farts in the party. Now Kenny dances on the strings of Noonan and Reilly like the red mullet puppet that he is.

That doesn't even make sense =/

Lose Job, go on benefits, place loads of CV's into companies, hear nothing back, goes on for months, get frustrated at life and lack of jobs, retrain, get certified, place loads of CV's into companies, get interview, turned down by company cos too much of a gap in CV,

Life on the dole for the majority

Yea Kenny eh **** off they are trying!!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 632 ✭✭✭Forest Demon

There are 28 people unemployed in Ireland for every job created. There is no guarantee that any of the jobs created would go to somebody who is already unemployed. We are not creating enough jobs yet to be cutting the doles of people who are genuinely seeking work, many of which have been paying high taxes for 10, 20 or 30 years until this recession and are simply collecting their entitlements.

I have less problems with the genuine people on the dole then I have with Bertie who is collecting his 130k pension out of current tax take.

That said the state should ensure that people are seeking work and cut those who make no effort.

It would be better if ol' Kedders ( Yes I will keep calling him that, I'll get to stick soon :) ) could actually generate some proper jobs in this country instead of loosing vital business, shacking up prices forcing businesses to close

Nah, That would be too easy..

Yes this country needs to pay its debts thanks to some dopes who clearly know how to play Monopoly but not the real thing... but at least try and generate some jobs or make it easier to start businesses, keep existing corporations here etc

    Will we ever learn?

I think you will have a better chance with:

    Noddy
    Red Mullet
    Edna
    Wankbag

The majority need to work on their technique. Don't have gaps on your CV.

Not quite. The long term employment rate during the boom was closer to 1%. Even in when there is full-employment finding a job can take time, so there will always be people between jobs.

That's it exactly. Don't you think there are enough other people out there willing to give their left nut for any job?

And why isn't it aimed at them? Why are they wheeling out this "on the couch" stereotype?
Maybe they can't move towards slashing welfare until they've eroded enough public sympathy for the unemployed.

I think that's a huge issue. A lot of agents in particular can be completely unreasonable about CV gaps which is causing unemployed people to get into long term unemployment traps.

I know some people who were turned down because they were freelance for too long!!

They're are some really narrow minded recruitment agents in this part of the world!

In my honest opinion, I think so, But then I have mixed opinions and I feel people say they are looking but won't work as its the same pay cheque as the dole...Same take in.... They won't bother. Understandable but still besides the point..

Just slash the long timers - I know people that have at least 10x savings in their bank accounts than I do... how does that work?! I don't even have savings!! I live week by week...

Agreed. Not sure why langers like this lad are allowed on boards.ie, what with boi, derp and Kedders - which makes no sense.

Should have been sending people from the Social down Ireland's beaches every day for the past two weeks. Anyone collecting dole found there should have had it cut.

Don't panic, don't panic. The wonder of Mayo, Enders, has a cunning plan to create 72 thousand new jobs, very shortly. Where did he get this figure from? Same as the Anglo boys, he pulled it out of his ar5e. I'm going to check what's up mine - it could be amazing.

It's the spongers that have never done an honest days work and have no intention of EVER doing an honest days work that need to be rooted off the sofas. I don't care if they go and sit on their rear ends in Fas 5 days a week so long as they aren't taking the p*ss on the dole. I've a young couple in their mid 20's near me. She's pregnant with the 6th kid and he has at least 1 other kid with someone else.

Neither of them has ever done an honest days work, why should they? The state is paying their rent, which is most peoples biggest monthly financial overhead and they must be cleaning up in child benefit and whatever else they can claim. They've a car and they get to stay up late most nights harrassing their neighbours. When money gets tight he just dabbles in handling stolen goods and burglary.

Anti-social behaviour in this country would drop dramatically if you took the long-term scumbag claimants, not people who've been made redundant etc, and placed them on permanent training schemes or some such in order to continue to receive benefits. If they'd to get up and be at work every morning like their neighbours do, they wouldn't be so keen to be up shouting and drinking and getting stoned into the early hours of the morning.

It's the ar*eholes like Willie O'Dea that are a major part of the problem:mad:

It's JSA or JSB they're on; Job Seeker's Allowance or Job Seeker's Benefit. Unless there's interviews going on for Lifeguard positions, they've no business being there 09:00 - 17:00, Monday to Friday.

Enda Kenny and his father before him never earned a weeks wage that didn't come from the tax payer.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,330 ✭✭✭✭Cienciano

Of course there's long term unemployed that don't want to work. I know people that don't have a job and were on the dole right through the boom. Thing is, telling them to get off the couch and get a job is like talking to the wall. They don't want to work and are happy getting free money. That's why raising benifits during the boom was such a bad idea. You're basically paying people to not work.
The vast majority of people on the dole at the moment want to work imho. Proof in the stats, they weren't unemployed when there were jobs around, it's not rocket science. There's a lot of people in really shítty situations, big mortgage, kids to feed, bill after bill coming into the house, tax after tax and charge after charge coming into the house and either one of both parents have lost their jobs or had their wages cut. Enda Kenny telling them to get up of their arse and get a job must be amazingly annoying and frustrating.
