That good? Strongly considering one of those as the next car but was slightly put off by mpg concerns

    Really, pretty sure you're not.

You are beating the best on spritmonitor.de. Well done.

This thread is useless, most people have no idea how to work it out and yet to see a in car display that's accurate.

If you going to post then provide evidence.

40-41 these days in a 1.6L 03 avensis which is almost always at 60mph on a national primary route.

I am getting 33.3 (indicated) from my Mini Cooper S. 1.6 turbo with 176 bhp I think. I cant be arsed working it out properly because I dont really care enought.

I thought it wasnt bad until I saw the clio above which puts it to shame :o

getting 31 from the 535d averaged over 5k kilometers

this reaches 37 on the motorway cruising at 120 and drops to below 18-20 around town.

so wow, that puts me into the economical category 30-40 mpg.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,480 ✭✭✭YbFocus

Ha Ha max I can beat you here :D

38mpg on day to day trips, national primary stuff.
Can do 42mpg when it settles down on the motorway.

Think I'm getting about 25mpg on a 2.3l petrol turbo.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 560 ✭✭✭wesf

Yeh i think some people are relying on their trip computers for their figures, bet if it was worked out properly they'd be less a few mpg!
Not surprised by those clio figures, had a 182 before and was getting late 30's easily.
94 Audi 80 avant, 52-54mpg on average, can increase this a bit on a long trip with cruise control on

    5.84 l/100km (48MPG) - 09 Honda civic 2.2 diesel
    8.64 l/100km (33MPG) - 04 Mazda 6 2.0 petrol
    6.92 l/100km (41MPG) - 01 Fiat Bravo 1.2 petrol
    8.43 l/100km (34MPG) - 03 Nissan Primera 1.8 petrol
    8.22 l/100km (34MPG) - 02 Ford Mondeo 1.8 petrol
    6.69 l/100km (42MPG) - 00 Opel Astra 1.4 petrol
    5.89 l/100km (48MPG) - 97 Fiat Cinquecento 0.9 petrol

That's figures from my spreadsheets and they are really precise (I've noted down every fillup). MPG values are rounded.
All cars used it similar conditions.

Problem with OP's question is that the same car might return completely different fuel consumption depending on type and style of driving.

Gentle driving on empty straight country roads could return 5l/100km (56MPG), while city driving in heavy traffic with heavy foot (accelerating and braking all the time) could bring the value above 10l/100km in the same car. (under 28MPG).

5l per 100 km or 56 mpg in old figures.

Mainly long distance driving, with some town driving mainly bringing it down.

Seen it go as low 4.2l/100km and as high as 6.3 l/100km when I feel like driving a bit faster :)

Surprising that's all you're getting from the Civic. My 2.2 is getting 50+ and it's about half motorway and half town.

02 Mercedes A-Class long wheelbase 1.4 petrol - around 30mpg mostly around the city and suburbs.

28mpg on LPG, 31mpg on Petrol ~10% less on LPG.

Longer journeys on the Motorway at 110 - 115km/h cruise will get 29-30mpg on LPG or 33-34mpg on Petrol.

See what I showed is average calculated from time I bought it.

I wasn't actually expecting much better, so I'm not disappointed

Best I achieved was 4.6 l/100km (61.5MPG) on run from Mayo to Dublin airport and back so nearly 600km route.
But this was rather to test how low can I go on fuel consumption.
I've driven at around 80 - 90km/h most of the times, and this was off-peak so very little traffic on the way.

Worst I achieved was about 7.5 l/100km (37.5MPG) on about 200km stretch of motorway, but here we are talking about speed around 180 - 200km/h.

In general on country roads in Mayo I'm getting about 5.5 l/100km (51MPG) which IMHO is pretty good.
It gets worse if there are some short runs.

Toyota Prius lifetime avg 60.2 over 32639 miles with 62 fill ups.

Best ever was the last tank of 73.4.

Anyone here ever calibatrated the cars speedo against a GPS over a given distance say 10 miles.

The Prius is accurate over 10 miles. My camper is out by 4% higher. My xt660 is out by a massive 10%, so then is the mpg.

Mk5 Golf GTI and my Average is about 31mpg, most of my miles are a cork to Galway return trip every few weekends which helps the average but the small bit of town driving I do during the week drags it down to the very low 30's very fast.

    Xsara picasso 1.6 vsx

Trip computer says 7.1 l/100 km or just under 40 mpg over the past 10,000 km. Driving is a daily 40km round trip commute on motorway and the occasional long run with the car fully laden.

Only ever bothered to brim the tank once and do the calculations myself and I got 38.5 mpg. Happy enough with that its about what the manufacturer states.

I don't warrant the mileage for gas!:(
When I got her I had thought about it but with 5000 miles its not really worth it.

That's decent enough but any time spent at 120kmh or more would see that increase drastically. I've managed 4.7 l/100km on a 30km drive from home to Swords. Stop/Start helps.

Those things are not accurate and they always overrate.

Your real mpg would be somewhat lower.
