HTC 8X appears to have just died; won't turn on again...

Hi all, DL'ed the GRD2 update yesterday and everything seemed to be fine, no issues with the installation.

Then today, not five minutes ago, I was listening to a song and then it just stopped dead. Thinking I was receiving a call, I pulled out the phone only to be met with a totally black screen.
Pressing buttons yielded no response. Holding down the power button to reboot didn't work.

I've now left it on charge, even though the phone was just taken off charge 30 minutes ago. I really, really need this phone to work. Has anyone else come across this?

Might this have to do with the recent update? Is my phone bricked for good?

    Thanks.

Did you try a Hard reset, Hold the volume down and power button for 5-10secs this should restart the phone

    Yeah, no joy.

I was using mine for GPS recently and it got really really hot and shut itself off.
Took about 30 minutes for it to cool down enough to even recognise being plugged in.

    Anything similar to that happen?

OK this is strange but I got the latest update 2 days ago and like OP I was
listening to music via a headphone jack and phone has just died. Wont turn on and no sign of it charging while plugged in.

Did the recent update just brick my phone?

I read recently (I think it was wpcentral) about the update causing issues with HTC 8X after the update. It mentioned specifically that it happened when playing music.

I'll see if I can find the article & will update here.

EDIT: not the ones I specifically saw, but same topic:

Yeah found the same ones after a quick google. Update has been delayed on certain carriers in the U.S. (assuming it's to fix this issue).

I called into meteor and sent the phone away for repair (5-10 working days). It has a 2 year manufacturer guarantee so shouldn't be a problem. I had skydrive to always update when on wifi so at least my photos are safe

I went into emobile and they sent it off for repair.
Got it back with a new display and new battery. Seems like they replaced the entire screen and case but left the remainder (camera lens, volume and power buttons).

A new firmware update was out on the 20th to fix it so once I got the phone and updated to that and haven't had any issues since.

There are reports that if you leave it plugged in to charge, the battery will reach a level where the phone will reset itself and once charged will work as normal.
It may continue to 'brick' itself though until you update to the latest firmware.

I made the mistake of leaving mine plugged out and the battery drained to the point where it wouldn't recharge at all
