    Hi folks,

I'm doing a project on Masonic graves in Ireland, some of which have gone completely undocumented. As I cannot get to every graveyard in the Country, could I ask you to take a look in your local cemetery, both RC and C of I and pm me if you spot one. I'm taking pictures of each one I find. Thanks.

How does one identify a masonic grave?

I thought that the RC Church didn't allow it's members to become masons (at least in the past anyway).

Would they allow Masonic graves in their graveyards ?

Meh, masonic graves is a pretty redundant project to be honest op - Dan Brown ruined that and highlighted it with half baked but interesting tales. Tales nonetheless - The brothers Grimm were better.

However, if you are interested in grave yards - Mount Jerome in Dublin and Hyde Cemetery in London, would be a good place to see real historic people and some pretty cool architecture and types of resting places, and some cool tales.

In fact, there is 'a' grave in one of them that is covered in thorns that aren't native, but grow nonetheless. A riddle.

They normally have Masonic symbols on them, such as the square and compass etc. Sometimes in your face, sometimes subtle.

Hardly redundant since there are hundreds of them around the Country. And a worthy project as this has never been compiled before. Thank you for your enlightenment anyhow!

Indeed they do, in fact you see the odd Masonic Grave in Catholic graveyards belonging to members before the Papal Bull came in. O'Connell was a member.

In my town in North Tipp RCC deceased Freemasons have the compass Masonic symbol on their gravestone. They're basically like the Lions Club, they do good and raise funds behind the scenes without looking for thanks. I don't see any problem with it, the Masons require members to believe in a 'Supreme Being'.

It's intentionally left as vague as that. Only men of good standing and will join.

    OK thanks.
I didn't know what a masonic symbol would be in relation to a headstone, so thanks for clarifying that.

I can't recall ever seeing such a symbol on a headstone then again I haven't bothered to try to notice such symbols either

Hi, which town is it? Sounds interesting.

Historically I would say Freemasonry is interesting and that this is a useful project but Christian I would say its not.

Maybe ask over in CT? They're mad for that stuff over there. Only problem might be that they see Masonic images everywhere. Seriously. Everywhere. You might find yourself being directed to every cemetery in the country...

Someone planted them? Not much of a riddle really...

Hi, thanks for that. However CT is for conspiracies whereas Freemasons actually exist and this is a serious research project.

If afraid that is incorrect. Most Freemasons now are Christian. I think you may be speaking from a Catholic point of view. This forum is not just the preserve of Catholicism you know!
There are also Muslim, Buddhist and Jewish Masons.
Anyway that argument is for another time. I'm simply compiling a list of Masonic Graves. Christian and non-Christian.
    Can you help?

I didn't mean to come across snotty op - I just tend to get glazed eyes when I see another project to 'unveil' the unveiled masons who are in control of the whole world - who have been 'unveiled' so much lately, and covered in Hansel and Gretel as the wicked witch, that any book will sell and any project sounds promising so long as a CT is involved. Fact and any fiction are sold wholesale.

I presume you have tried to contact the Masonic Lodges, asking for details of any deceased members?

Yes, indeed I have. With some success. But there are many areas where lodges cease to exist and Warrants were returned, leaving just a few overgrown and forgotten headstones.
