Long story short I'm looking at 2 passat cc. They are both black, both 10reg.

The differences are 1000€ of a difference.
The more expensive has a few more gadges such as parking sensors, tinted back windows and its 170 bhp where as the other is 140.

The 170 has a tan cloth interior and 10k more millage and the other is grey cloth.
    Around 60k.

Would the extra 1000 be worth it?

For me it would. Although I'm not familiar with the engines so someone else might say that one is better/more reliable than the other.

Since they both have cloth interiors, the 170 is the one to go for. Usually in these situations, the 140 would have a leather interior but since that's not the case, 170 all the way.

For me the 1000 difference would be worth the 30bhp more.
It's a big car and 140bhp could be a bit tedious on long journies or most motorway driving.

...I'll row in and say that if neither have leather, then essentially they're the same. More bhp is nice to have, but I don't think it's work 1k extra - and sensors etc definitely not.

If you have driven the 140 yourself and found it does the job for you, I see no advantage in spending 1k extra, and so I'd pick the 140.

“And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, generates funds to the exchequer. You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

Sensors would be handy - I'd imagine rear visibility isn't great in one. Aftermarket sensors look crap and won't function as well as OEM with the on-screen integration. Maybe 200 ish for rears painted, same again for the fronts. A remap for the 140 will cost you 4-450 ish for a good one. 10k is nothing - wouldn't sway my decision by much.

If you would use the extra poke and the sensors and prefer the interior colour then go for it. If not there's not much wrong with the 140 in them either.

I bought one of these the other day and despite only having 140bhp on paper it is surprisingly lively. Now you can get a remap done for about €300/€350 that will bring the 140bhp up to around the same figures as the 170bhp. I certainly would not pay €1k premium for the 170bhp version unless the spec was a lot higher than the 140bhp.

Thanks for all the replys. Always tough when they are so close in spec

Going to drive them both on Monday. Any things that I should be looking out for on the test drive?

Why not buy the 140bhp car and put the €1000 difference towards a nice leather retrim?
