Archaeologists find ancient fish trap at Dublin quays site

The item – found at Diageo construction site on Victoria Quay – is believed to date back to the mesolithic age.

A similar fish trap was found in 2007 at Spencer Dock on the River Liffey by archaeologist Melanie McQuaid. After dating, that item was found to be approximately 6,500 years old, dating back to the mesolithic age.

    It surely will!

I believe the fish-traps excavated at Clowanstown,Co.Meath, took two years or more to record and conserve prior to being put on display at the National Museum.

In saying that, the fish-trap found at Victoria Quay would appear to be in a better state of preservation than one or two of those found at Clowanstown.

Here's some wonderful images from the UCD School of Archaeology Fergus Estuary Project in 2010 taken by Aidan O'Sullivan.

Its remarkable that it is the third Mesolithic example found in a relatively short period of time. I wonder what else is out there.
