Were the Dept were caught with their pants down, their hands in your pocket?
The chairman of Anglo Irish Bank altered a letter to the minister for finance, at his department’s request, to obscure the extent to which the bank was funding Seán Quinn’s investment in the bank’s own shares........
The Quinn family, who are seeking to join the Department of Finance and the Central Bank in an action against Anglo Irish Bank, claim that this supports their case that they do not owe the bank €2 billion because the loans were advanced illegally

Looks like this puts us on the hook for €2bn more in cuts.

Quinns daughter yesterday said The Financial Regulator was aiding the ‘Golden Circle’ who were allegedly given hundreds of millions in loans by Anglo Irish Bank to reinvest in the bank’s shares.

    http://www.irishtimes.com/business/sectors/financial-services/quinn-daughter-says-documents-show-finance-anglo-collusion-1.1466828

A story we should be following closely. More closely than these stupid Anglo tapes.

The Quinn V IRBC court case will probably reveal more than any "banking inquiry" planned by Enda.
i would be very surprised if an out of court settlement is not made just to keep a lot of information out of the public domain.

This places the Dept of Finance and the Govt directly in the middle of the storm of lies and deceit that was drip fed to the public.
Concocting stories and reports to suit their needs
More than ever an independent inquiry is needed from a body outside this jurisdiction.

'Course the will. Chances of anyone in the PS facing charges of fraud is zero. They'll just dip our pockets again to cover their asses again.

What's new here is Quinn may have another case against Finance & the Central Bank using the same information.

Central Bank refusing to hand over documents to Joan Collins

The Central Bank is opposed to handing over certain unidentified documents to United Left TD Joan Collins for her action challenging the Government’s payment of €31 billion promissory notes under the recapitalisation of former Anglo Irish Bank and the Irish Nationwide and Educational Building Societies.

Check out last night's Vincent Browne, very informative, helped by the fact that there were no politicians on the programme.

Is there any way Joe Public could make a request to the EU to demand an independent inquiry that does consists of people from outside Ireland and with no vested interest in Irish affairs?

This explains pretty much the whole thing.

This whole scandal goes right to the top of the political, legal and banking sectors and beyond. We'll never get to the bottom of this

Given that Quinns whole case boils down to

"our daddy borrowed billions to support his gambling addiction, but since it was an allegedly illegal gamble he shouldnt have to pay it back"

    I'd say no

The letters were disclosed by the Department of Finance in the High Court two days ago, along with the minutes of a meeting whereby a Department official agreed to review the letter prior to it being sent into the Minister.

So ? Did they confirm that "The chairman of Anglo Irish Bank altered a letter to the minister for finance, at his department’s request, to obscure the extent to which the bank was funding Seán Quinn’s investment in the bank’s own shares" ??
Did they confirm such “a significant change in wording” in response to the minister’s request showed the Department of Finance dictated the terms of the response to its own request ?

No. This is just a perversion of justice being concocted by this family to try to screw more money from the tax payer and people here are incredibly gullible to fall for it. This family should be in jail, not in court screwing us a second time.
