AC Compressors

Long story short is I had to get a quote from a mechanic that I don't usually deal with for an a/c compressor for a VW Touran.

My question is can there be much difference between ac compressors used?

The reason is this guy claims he can get me an AC Compressor worth €1000 for €450. I found this all very hard to believe so looked them up online & can see a load for sale for around STR£250

    Is he full of bull****?

Just rang Volkswagon & a genuine AC compressor part from them would be €500 & odd + VAT

    suspicions confirmed

Most of whats on there are indeed Chinese or other LCC clones/ genuines copies/ reverse engineered versions of the world leaders in swash compressors. Key players are Tama Zexel, Denso, Sanden, Unicla from Japan with perhaps Delphi from USA.
Many of those have dual use in transport chillers as in freeezer vans you see making deliveries. E500 seems high but thats via the big auto groups.
