Anyone got any shots of inside the old tower when it was in use and how it looks now?

Also love the old terminal building, any good resources online to view this?

Great shots. Especially the one with the 707!

Wonder is there any of the old control gear still in the old tower? Does it still have a good view of most of the apron? I see they still use its roof for the green/white beacon.

I love the art deco style, still looks somewhat futuristic all these years on.

Took these a while back while on the trek to a Ryanair flight to Luton.

    Excellent.

On either "wing" of the old terminal there are six small windowed booths on the roof, some of them have what looks like weather instruments or radio aerials on them, anyone know what they were for?

Met eireann have their station in the tower of the OCTB. There's lots of meteorological devices on the wings that are still in use.

For anyone interested, there's an Open House weekend every year run by the irish architecture foundation that often includes the OCTB. I done the tour through them last year, fantastic to see the building at close quarters. They brought us into the met station up top as well.

I think the Open House weekend is early October this year.

That was one of the most beautiful airport buildings in the World, manys a happy day I spent on the viewing gallery looking at planes, its a shame you cant go out to look anymore, I used to drive up from Galway for the day it was heaven, I love the picture of the Boeing 707. And manys a happy day I spent in Shannon Airport with all the Eastern block aircraft and US ones, it too was a great day out.

Ive worked at Dublin airport for 2 summers about 10 years ago and have travelled through it a few times and believe it or not, Ive never seen the front of the old terminal. It really looks like a stunning building and the lawns and access roads would really take you back Id say.
It must really have been stunning when originally built - no clutter with large roads or poorly designed structures just a very purposeful and welcoming terminal building. Its hard to imagine the airport having just that terminal but some of those photos in linked in this thread are fantastic.

In recent years they have been able to return the lawns to the way they originally looked and I think it is fantastic. While the Pier D skybridge does obstruct the longrange view it also provides a great elevated view for pax heading to the Pier D gates.

The George Pickow collection has some great photos, with a lot of broken links however. Maybe if enough people email them they may get them fixed.

    Do a search for 'Airport'

Open House will be on from October 4th to October 6th 2013 - so keep an eye open!

Walked through that terminal a few times in my childhood on our annual month here. Always gazed around in awe, the inside is amazing. Even as a child I loved the place. Heathrow Terminal 3 was sh*te.

The original Terminal is passenger lounges on the airside ground floor, Reception on the landside ground floor, DAA and Met Eireann offices above.

EI did used to use the ground flooe for boarding about 2-4 years ago. I think Aer Arann/EIR used it up till recently (They now use T2)

We flew out of it a few years back.... Think it may have been a Ryanair flight to Kerry, but not 100% on that... Hadn't been in those gates since I was a kid, brought back a flood of memories!

I recall a while back I was bussed from a Ryanair flight which parked up on a remote stand to the old building.. There are passenger gates and lounges there but I rarely see them utilised these days.

Also when I worked for AerRianta back in the day I did my medical there. There was a medical centre on the ground floor on the right as you went in. No clue if that's still there today. Beautiful building though.

Immediately below the old tower proper is now used by Met Eireann. I visited it in 2006...lets say I was like a kid in a sweet shop :D

You have to apply through the website, and be quick as places are very limited.

Took weeks to find this picture again..

    pcd-collinstown-airport.jpg

It's from fantasyjackpalance.com, unfortunately I can't find the year the picture was taken. They also have some other great historic pictures of Dublin but no more of the airport I'm afraid.

There are a few others on street view but this one seems to be the only old one. It is from airside on the apron, I wonder what year it's from.

and I'm recommending Irish Steve for canonisation :-)

I'll pass on that for a while if you don't mind:D

I'm going to experiment with this post, so it might change in a few minutes if the experiment doesn't work.

Plan B, gone to photography to do some research, back shortly.

Can't do what I was hoping, will have to do more research on the "how".

Shore, if it was easy, everybody would be doin it.😁
