Hi there. I have been to university in the UK for the past while. I may be returning to Ireland soon.

Would it be possible for me to claim the dole after living over here for the past while? I have also worked over here in the UK for a bit. I have claimed the dole once in Ireland before (during my year out of university before I got a job).

I had hoped to have a job by now but I don't and money is really tight. Life basically sucks hard at the moment! :(

    4. I have been working abroad for the last couple of years. I have now returned to Ireland and I am looking for a job. Can I apply for a jobseekers payment?

If you have been working in another EU member State, your social insurance record in that Member State may be credited to your record in Ireland to help you qualify for Jobseeker's Benefit. If you need to combine your contributions from another EU country to claim Jobseeker's Benefit, you must have paid at least 1 reckonable contribution since the date of your return to Ireland.

If you don't qualify for Benefit you might be eligible for Job Seekers Allowance which is means tested and if you are genuinely looking for work

Also you may have to meet the Habitual Residence clause, see here

If you are moving back from the uk I would bring back any prof you have that you lived in the Uk ie bill with address, letter from university ect, bank statements ect.
You will need your passport and birth cert also prof of the address you are living at in Ireland.
If you are living at home just ask your parents to give you a letter to confirm you are living with them at the above address.

If you have worked in the Uk in the past I would bring any letters you got from HM revenue that shows your national insurance number on it along with any form ect you got from them.

I would also bring something to show that you no longer have ties or savings in the uk ie a letter from you uk bank to show your bank account is closed.
