It's a huge tournament and they've scheduled it to coincide with the Races so...we're fcuked.

Investing in a jetpack to get anywhere while the two events are on because traffic will be spectacular.

A bicycle does the same trick and is slightly less expensive than a jetpack.

But significantly less fun and a whole lot more work.

Besides the jetpacks will get on the econuts nerves:pac:

There are often poker tournaments race week, there are a lot of people that come to galway race week because it's not just a horse racing festival.

But in fairness, this is the first time they've built a huge-mungeous tint to hold them in. You have to think they're expecting a few more bodies than usual.

Personally I'm thinking the more the merrier, lets get the madness over in the week when lots of locals go away.

Not looking forward to the racket outside my window .. but I expected that when I moved in to the city centre, and it's made up for by having several pubs and a supermarket within five minutes walk of my front door.

Traffic? Bah-humbug ... just walk around town, and catch the bus from the edges. Maybe it might encourage some people to use the Park and Ride. (Mmm .. good question .. will it run during race week ...)

Less work than walking though, especially in this weather.

If they are they'll have to go in/out the Motorway & Dublin Rd as there's restricted access to the Monivea Rd (from the comments about no bus lanes it they seem to be using this road) from 1/2 hours before the first race and about 1h after the last race.

It's still not a jetpack. Jetpack trumps bicycle, even when it inevitably kills you.

Yes I'd much rather be remembered as the eejit would died while flying his jetpack than remembered as the eejit who died cycling his bicycle the wrong way on a one way street :P, besides, dying in a jet pack accident seems to have more of an impact :p

And the chances of a pedestrian being nearly run over by an idiot jetpackist are much less than by an idiot cyclist.

They're saying on Facebook that it's gonna run, perhaps with some route changes.

We were in town for a few pints on Saturday and one of the guys wanted to head down to have a look. No one wanted to play poker, just to have a pint & a look.

    Note: if you head down.
You HAVE TO register to enter, even if not playing poker.
My alter-ego 'Buck Rogers' was going it sign for me but... they required Photo I.D and you have to sign a T&C sheet.... even if just wanting a pint.
I also think the take your photo?

Needless to be said, we laughed and had much 'less hassle' pints elsewhere .... and didn't have to give our personal details to a international poker company!

seems standard enough. If you want a pint go to a pub. If you want to play poker go to this place.

True, you can see why they'd want to separate the general population from the fools that want to lose money ;-)

I just wish they had a note up at the door saying "you must register to enter"... didn't appreciate having my time wasted by being made to queue!

and did you not wonder why you were queueing? It is quite obvious that the queue is to register but then maybe everything isnt that obvious to you

Ahh... I didn't know you 'had' to register to play, I though they were just collecting mailing/spam list info.

And **** that, more people in this country should bitch about the big & little things ;-)

Not when its 3 people deep.

You're correct, 'everything isn't obvious to me'.... I have yet to drink from the fountain of knowledge!

At what time was it 3 deep? So what did you think you were queueing for? And why bother when you have no interest in poker? seems very odd to me i must say

Jasus, the boards inquisition. Just saying what happened... I didn't at all want to be there, following the lads at the time, franky poker playing is not at all my cup of tea AT ALL.
