Hey all.. Looking for a bit of advice from those 'in the know'. I'm planning on sticking my car up online to try sell as is and its sitting in the drive and not being used.

It's a 1999 Vw passat 1.9 tdi 110bhp automatic - se and has heated seats, all electric windows, alloys, sunroof, air conditioning it's originally UK import with higher spec then Irish models.

Now the downside! It's out of NCT a year and has an oil leak which a mechanic friend looked at and said it was repairable and gave me a quote of about €350 . The brake calipers were replaced recently costing €470 and has relatively new tyres. Aside from the issues mentioned the car is driving very well.

I'm just wondering how much I should put this car up for as I really don't have a clue about these things and just want to try get rid now and buy a smaller car more suited to my needs!

Hmm no NCT for a year so it needs to be backdated, you dont mention tax? Car has an oil leak (never good) which needs about 350/400 to fix and its 14 years old.
The only thing going for it is that its a good spec, Whats the mileage? Photos? any dents? Tears in the seats? Does the AC work ok? Heated seats work ok?
Looking at all these things, I would imagine you are looking at a 600e figure give or take. Its the oil leak that would do it for me more than the NCT

Thanks for reply. There's no tax since December as I haven't been driving it.

Mileage is 140k. No dents. No tears in seats. Pretty clean car inside and out. AC and heated seats working perfectly. I don't have any photos right now, but can post later.

Your best option might be to sell it as a parts car at this stage.

    Thanks...
Would I individually list the parts if go someplace in particular?

Have you tried putting it through the NCT? A valid test would make it far easier to sell.

Ok then the car isnt worth much at all I'm afriad. Taxing it plus NCT plus fixing would put a lot of people off. Stick it up for 300e and see what happens. Breaking it for spares would require a lot of time and space (If you know what you are doing)

I don't really want to have to put any money into to be honest, I really just want to sell it as is..

Plus you would have to fix the oil leak first

You could focus on the foreigners if you know any? They could export it to their own country where these cars cost a fortune, they fix it much cheaper than here, register it in their country and bring it back to IRL and hey presto they have a LHD car with cheap insurance and no nct to worry about. Although not strictly legal after 3 months.
Advertise it with all the mentioned problems and put 350e as the asking price with the possibilty also to export. I doubt you will have the car long at that point.
    No problem :)

It's hard to say without having seen it, but I'd clean it inside and out, put it in DoneDeal for €800 or offers, and see what you get. Cheap diesel automatics are thin on the ground, and the right person might pay good money for it.

Cheers- I'm after taking photos of it and going to throw it up on a few of the sites to see what kind of response I get..
