Starting in Big 4

    Howdy,

    I'm starting in Audit in a big 4 this Autumn. I have a from now until then off so I was wondering is there anything I should be doing to give myself a head start and make settling in easier? I already emailed the company and they said you'd be shown everything when you join but I still would like to be doing something productive. Any insights would be appreciated. I was thinking of focusing on revising basic accounting, improving typing speed and practicing writing half coherent business emails. Thanks

    If you really want to do something, make sure you're very familiar with excel. Being able to paste values rather than copying and pasting different formats into the one spreadsheet, using vlookup, various other formulas, pivot tables etc will be a major help, especially if you'll be working in FS/Funds.

    Thanks for the replies. I am enjoying my summer but I'm not working so I have bucket loads of free time, so I really would like to spend an odd hour just getting up to speed.

    Definitely will look into getting better at excel. Used it a lot 2yrs ago but can't remember anything. Thanks

    Learn how to use vlookups/macros/pivot tables/IF statements etc in Excel and you're laughing imo.

    I lost out on a job this year (not accountancy though) because I didn't have these excel skills, so good advice!
