Most dogs won't fight when they're hunting from what I've seen because they're concentrating on their job. I wouldn't put it past them though if they were in a pen, until the leader is decided anyway.

Two evenings ago I decided to bring my retriever out with a friend and his g.s.pointer. called over to his house to pick them up, figuring there'll be no issues as both dogs are only 1and 1.5 years old(so shouldn't be trying to assert dominance) and both are lovely friendly dogs.
Anyway, my lovely quiet retriever met the gsp, no problems. Put my dog back in jeep and put gsp in, to be met with deep growls and snarls from my retriever. Obviously this was his jeep and he wasn't for sharing it.
So we just walked to a nearer field and let them off there, retrieving a dummy we were throwing. They worked very well together, almost drove each other on. And there were no issues on this 'neutral' ground.
So we walked back to the house and I put my dog back in the jeep to go home. Tried to put the gsp in the jeep too, to see if they were ok with each other now. No growls but my dog was looking at me whining when the gsp got in.

so from what I can see, do not introduce dogs to each other in ones home area(we met outside the house in the estate) and dont try transport them together at first. They will work together once out. Once they are real used to each other, maybe after a few more play dates, they could be transported together.

hope this very recent experience helps.

I have a Springer and my Cousin has an English pointer. Both about a yr old, a few weeks ago we said we'd go for a walk and introduce the 2 dogs! After and initial growl on both parts a quick correction from me to let them know I'm boss not either of them had no more worries! Good hour or so walk and not a peep from either of them both just did there thing! Have been out a couple of times since and dogs were excited to see each other!!
