First Interview

    So I have my first job interview in McDonalds on Monday coming, this is no problem, I feel ready :P

    The issue is, I'm going abroad on the 5th of August for 7 nights. Obviously this will be important if I get the job.. But I'm not quite sure when I should notify the manager. Should I mention it during the interview? Or mention it if I get the job?

    I geneally ask candidates at the interview do you have any holidays coming up. If they don't ask you, offer the information up. I would be surprised if they don't ask you however.

    I wouldnt mention it at all and just mention it when he asks about the starting date, and just say you have previous commitments until August 12th.

    Bring it up in the interview. They will prefer to know, and if you're successful, they can adapt the rosters to accomodate you. However, if you leave it until you get the job, they could refuse the time off. I could be wrong, but as far as I know, time off requested during an interview has to be honoured, but not once the job starts as it may not suit "business needs"
    I always ask about holidays/days off needed in interviews and requests for time off have never put me off a candidate.

    No obligation on an employer to honour time off requested prior to actually being employed. At interview stage you don't even work for them so they have no obligation to you in any form. Eventhough you mentioned it at the interview, if it doesn't suit it doesn't suit. If you are lucky they will let you start when you get back.

    It does happen that if it is between 2 people, the one available immediately will get the job. But hopefully for OP they will be prepared to wait for him.

    As mentioned they will usually either straight out ask if you have any leave plans or they will ask how soon you can start. You need to mention that you have holidays booked. Perhaps say that the holiday has been booked for some months and unfortunately cannot be changed, but you are more than willing to accommodate them with extra hours before/after the leave period if it helps.
