Halloween Homeless Assault

So,it's not going to be 25 degrees or more for the coming year. It's going to get cold across the entire country and unfortunately there are 5000+ people bearing the brunt of the cold and sleepless nights in every town across Ireland.Sadly, these days a lot of people cannot think past their own household due to their own economic struggles thus leaving many homeless people even further isolated.

I've seen on here the great generosity from boardsies, especially with the action taken for the santa strike force and feel that many of you have more of a heart than you usually portray on here.

So!,my proposal.I propose for the upcoming Halloween festivities some of us (or maybe all, that would be a lot of people) take an evening off the booze to get out on the streets to share a little bit of warmth with the homeless population of Ireland. From my experience of handing out stuff on the streets every now and again is that 50 euro can buy an extensive amount of stuff for approx 3-4 homeless people. This doesn't mean everybody has spend 50,but even 16 would be loads.

Break Down of what I usually get:

    Blanket/Throw- 5 euro (penneys)
    Gloves - 2 euro (penneys)
    Hat - 2 euro (penneys)
    socks- 3 euro (penneys)
Packs of wipes, toiletories etc - about 4 euro (dealz)

I'm sure everybody could afford to save up at least 16 euro by halloween.

The beauty of this is that YOU buy the stuff, and YOU give to the less fortunate. There are no direct debits,no middle men,no chuggers just YOU and HIM/HER.I feel it would be unfair to concentrate on one city,so perhaps some people could step up to the plate and put themselves forward to meet and communicate with others on boards within their town.

    TLDR:
Are you ok to meet up with boardsies for a few hours one evening around Halloween? (of course you are!)

Can you save at least 16 euro before Halloween? (of course you can!)

Are you willing to storm the place in fancy dress and give out stuff to the homeless? (Damn right you are!)

There's plenty of time to organise this, and i don't think anybody would be horribly opposed to giving people a few pieces of clothing (this is after hours though so who knows..)

I like the sentiment, I regularly give foldin' moneh to certain homeless guys.

However, me being dressed as a deranged, zombie Borat with bowel problems does not go well with handing out stuff.

    Best of luck though.

    I'm in.

Would it be worth coordinating with other charities in planning this do you reckon?

Worked in hotel for a while. Watched them throw out enough to feed 20 people. This was a daily thing.

No one should go hungry in this country. People are more worried about killing unborn than saving the living.

    Laziness of our society.

I haven't a clue,to be honest i haven't even thought that far ahead. However i would be more prone to leave this to people on boards to go out and give stuff out as a group. So it's basically they're in charge from the purchases to who they hand it out to.

Now I dont want to seem a gowl, but there is not 5000 people sleeping on the streets tonight or any night in Ireland.

There may be just over 100, but for 99% hostels/dry houses are provided.

They may be home-less but they are not house-less.

Its a good idea though, could do it during the day as well. So they have fresh clothes to go back to the accomodation.

People can't use the excuse 'Ah they're alcoholics, they'll spend it on drink'
You're not giving them money, you're giving them something that will instantly help them.

    Good idea, OP.

True,i think people have the misconception also that all homeless people are junkies or Alcoholics when that simply isn't the case.
