FTA box and dish

    Hi All.....
I have a standard SKY + HD box etc but I also bought a FTA digital reciever with a view to using this in my study to watch BBC, ITV etc....
I thought it would be as simple as running a co-axial cable from the existing SKY dish to the digital receiver and "hey presto" -- but it doesn't seem to be working for me... I'm getting no signal. The box is pre-programmed for UK channels so am I missing something obvious here?

Are you getting "no-signal" on all the pre-programmed channels?
Have you tested the FTA satellite receiver on the connection to the Sky receiver?
What is the make and model of the FTA receiver?

check your F connectors that you have done them correctly

Thanks Cush -- I've tested the box by connecting it to the cables used for the main SKY box and it's working fine... getting signals/channels without issue, so that would suggest I'm doing something wrong with the cable I'm using.

On the dish there are 4 inputs, 1 of which currently has the SKY cable running to/from it. I thought I could just run another cable from the dish to the new box and it should pick it up??? or am I being too simplistic with this

No, that's how it should work.

The cable could be faulty (or damaged during installation) or the connectors at each end of the cable may not be properly made or the LNB output on the dish could be faulty.

Can you connect the cable to another output on the LNB and recheck the connectors on the cable ensuring that any of the outer braid wires aren't touching the inner core wire. Also ensure there are no sharp bends on the co-ax cable from the dish.

I think the cable maybe faultly so I'll start from there.... thanks for your help on this

I'd start on the easy things first like LNB output and F connectors unless you're sure there's a fault with the cable.
