Cube Peloton quick question

Hi folks, just bought a new Peloton 2013 version there from a local bikeshop in a 58cm frame. Brought it home to have the father say that it seems a bit small for 58cm frame. The guy in the bike shop says a longer stem might be needed for the bike but when i took it for a spin earlier it seemed fine.
Is it possible to return the bike for the next size up (even though i think it might be a bit big!) or should I add a longer stem?
Anyone had any experiences with these particular bikes?...

A 58 in Cube sizing is more like a 56 in traditional sizing which would suit someone roughly 5'9 to 6'1. How tall are you?

I'm 5' 11" , 31in inseam. I read with these bikes that you have to go a size up like you've said but when the father busted out the measuring tape earlier the seat tube length was 540mm.
I never got a fitting (stupidty on my part!) but I know I'm no more than a trad 58cm if pushing. The lad in the shop is well known around the town to be fair and did say I might need a longer stem but after the father spotting the tube length I've my doubts!
What ya reckon? Bring it back and go a size up or change stem? When I went for a spin the bike felt fine. Feels more racing position than other racers as opposed to a more relaxed position.

I'm around your height and the 58 peloton fits me fine. I did get a proper bike fit done after I bought it.

Yeah that's the geometry for the Cube Peloton in a size 58, 540mm seat tube, 540mm effective top tube. If it fits then keep it. The way to tell if you need a longer stem is if your position is fairly upright, and if there's a lot of bend in your elbows on the hoods.

I think you probably got the right bike. I am 5'10 (and a half!) and I would buy a 58 in a Cube.

You can't really go by seattube measurement any more. It was easier on old steel bikes that all had identical geometry. A 56 was a 56 then. A better measurement is the horizontal (or effective) toptube length but it's not perfect either.

You could play around with different stems to get the perfect position.

Sorry, I must be pedantic. It's 560mm effective top tube. 540mm actual.

Thanks for the swift replies so far, gone spare thinking I've gotten the wrong size. I got the standard Peloton in white Pete btw. If I was to change the stem, what would you say to an adjustable one? Or they a no no for racers?

No worries, it's the same geometry.

You can flip/invert the stem if you need the handlebars raised a touch. It looks better than those adjustables.

Ah didn't know it was ok to flip stems. Sure I'll tip away on it for a week or two and report back. Cheers for the help!

Floyd Landis did it on his way to winning the TDF. Though he was raised a Mennonite with no concept of European Cycling Fashion Rules.

Maybe I'm being pedantic here but Floyd Landis did not win the TdF

He'll always be the winner to me.

Yeah, and Armstrong will always be a seven time winner(in his own mind)

OP, why are you looking to do anything to the bike? You said that you tried it out and it felt fine. It's all down to what feels comfortable personally to you. I have a cube peloton myself and at 6ft I could have gotten away with either the 58 or 60 frame. Tried both sizes (LBS allowed me off on a 30 min cycle with each) and ended up going for the 58 as the 60 just felt too upright for me.

I definitely don't think the frame size is too small for you, but if you don't feel comfortable with your current setup, take it back to your LBS and they should sort you out.

Been back with the bike, a size 58cm frame is 540mm which baffled the lad in the bike shop. So switching up to a 62cm frame as that'll be a 580mm seat tube. Bike shop said theres no problem getting a bigger frame in so better safe than sorry I suppose.
By the way, why do Cube go with such wierd measurements? Is that the norm with some brands?

Have you even tried out the bigger frame? What makes you think that a 58 cm seat tube is the magic number that will fit you for all bikes? I'm not an expert on this, and i'm sure other people will pipe up here with the technical details, but it's about the geometry of the bike (angle of seat tube, top tube length etc) as much as the length of the seat tube.

If you felt the 58 was only slightly small for you, I would go with the 60cm. Getting a 62 is just asking for trouble unless the bike you had originally was way too small for you.

It's only to check frame size, lad in the bike shop says it's best to try 'properly2 this time out. I would be a 58cm frame for my height if we were to talk the normal sizing catergory, 56cm (60cm in the Peloton) might still be a bit small.
I'll just wait and try it when the bigger bike lands in.

I find that a smaller bike is better than one that's too big, with a smaller bike you can raise the seatpost, and use a longer stem or a layback seatpost.

If a frame's too big for you, a short stem will affect your handling and make it fairly twitchy.

That's too big. Forget the seat tube measurement you are a 58 or a 60 max.

Lad from the bike shop was back to me about getting bigger frame, he's ordered in the 60cm frame so thats that sorted. The 62's are hard to aqquire apparantly.

I seriously doubt you need a bigger frame. What you need is a bike fit. I've a 33 in seam and cycle a 56cm specialized aluminium bike and a L/XL carbon Fuji which is equivelant of a 58. Both are set up correctly for me, I have a 110mm stem on the Fuji and a 130 mm stem on the specialized.

The adaptability of a bike frame setup is huge. You may well regret getting a larger frame.

But the fella in the bike shop wasn't aware of the tube length for the 58cm frame, he thought it was a 560mm but was a 540mm. He says that the 60cm should be just right which is a 560mm tube length which was what I was looking for originally. Sure I'll find out when it comes in, I'm not obliged to take it if its too big/ too small anywho.

Quick update. Bike shop can't get either of the next sizes up so got my money back. The shop only deals Lapierre's and Cannondales. So the question now is should I look at another bike in the similar price range or look else where for another Peloton? Kinda put of it with the sizing issue to be honest.
Had originally been looking at a Specialized Allez Sport with the other bike shop in town which was going for 950 quid. Any other decent specced bikes at that price range?
