Trip to Alton Towers

A friend and I are planning to go to Alton Towers probably during the first week of September. We are 17 and 18 years old. I have done some research already but have a few questions.
Which is the best airport to fly to from Dublin?
Where would you recommend to stay? We may go shopping so this needs to be a factor. I checked the Alton Towers hotels but they came up as £500 pounds for 3 nights which is out of the question! (we want to go to the water park as well).
Are there any other worthwhile things to see in the general area?

    Thanks for any help!

You can fly from Dublin with Aer Lingus to Birmingham for around 150 for 2 people (depending what time you pick to fly, itll either be on a jet or a propellor plane)

Theres a Premier Inn in Uttoxeter, 3 nights from sept 4 is £147. Think theres a bus running from it to Alton towers but youd want to check that out.

might be too late for you now but for what its worth i would recommend flying into Birmingham+staying there. you can get the train to somewhere close to alton towers+they run shuttle from there. forget the name of the station but it is an easy day trip from Birmingham. shopping will also be alot better than uttoxeter!
look up the alton towers website for the travel info from Birmingham. also Google 2 for 1 tickets for there, nobody that goes there pays full price! adult tickets (over 12 you are an adult apparently) are £45 on the gate. kellogs have vouchers on the packets for 2for1 entery.
