    Hi guys,

Hope you can help here - have a 2006 Hyundai Santa Fe (new model) 2.2 4WD Diesel Automatic.
Over the last 4 weeks, she has started cutting out whilst driving for no reason, dangerous to say the least....

Brought to a (non Hyundai) service centre yesterday, diagnostics passed, everything fine, they couldn't see anything...
Today it cut out again, tends to be on hills and turning??
Has anyone with a SFe seen anything similar with theirs?
    Any help much appreciated
    Cheers
    C

Id be starting with the basics change the fuel filter if its dirty enough it could easily cause the car to cut out.

Sell! Family member had one. Turbo blew and a few months later the engine went. Cost a fortune to repair. They got rid of it straight after.

The same thing happened to my old 2005 petrol Santa on two separate occasions over an 18 month period, first time it was main relay then it was the crankshaft sensor, doubtful that it is the relay in your model, get a diagnostic done and see if it's the crankshaft sensor, not too expensive to get repaired, looking at under ,€200.

Cutting out on hills and at junctions sounds like a fuel pressure issue. There are a good few potential causes but the cheapest and easiest thing to try is a new fuel filter. If that doesn't work then I suggest taking the car to either a good garage who are confident they can diagnose it despite the lack of codes or failing that a diesel injection specialist.

hardly the best advice ever given on here. sounds like they were very unlucky.

i dont think that model santa fe are known for major turbo trouble or complete engine failure. was it serviced as its correct intervals with the right oils?

    Hi,

Thanks for the posts and advice guys, appreciated, yes, regular service intervals (ok but not with Main dealer)
I have it in with Hyundai in Dublin now, so let's see - cut out again twice yesterday coming down a hill but ok this morning, as it's the sheer randomness of it, we're nervous driving it now.

It had a full diagnostic run on it by a 3pp service centre, passed all tests, charged €75 and it still cuts out. Not good at all.

Unfortunately some garages think that diagnostics starts and ends with a code reader. If they dont find a code then they dont take the next step of manually troubleshooting the issue.

The crankshaft sensor is definately a weak point with the car.

    Hi there,

Well the problem persists - had it with a Hyundai dealer who replaced the fuel filter, cleaned out the ERG and drove it 50 km/overnight without cutting out...

The car cut out again last night turning a corner, I've put some Dipethane into the fuel to see if this will flush out and contaminants I think are in the lines and a good motorway spin to Galway today will do it no harm.
    Bloody annoying all the same.....

Will it start straight away after it cuts out or does the engine turn over for a bit before it starts?

It will start straight away after cutting out.

So yesterday ran to Athlone and back on the motorway, gave it plenty of welly and alas....she didn't cut out at all yesterday evening on those bends coming into the estate....fingers crossed between the replacement part, ERG clean, fuel treatment and a good run, the problem will have disappeared!

Quite possible you have just been buying sh1t diesel full of rubbish and clogging up the fuel filter/injectors etc.

Unkel is right btw, this engines are known for giving trouble AFAIK. I'd be getting rid if it were me, ironically enough, Dad had plenty on his fleet that never gave bother though so I'm not sure where the 2.2D stands there.

Not so sure about the fuel, bought in all the standard topaz/apple greens etc
Good point though, sure will know in the coming days.

Neighbour had a 04 Santa Fe with similar symptoms. Ended up something to do with the crank shaft...

    Agreed :)

Have heard of major issues from a good few people (indirectly) too though...

And bad DMF on the manuals...

If I had one, I'd get rid while it's still worth a few bob

The same happened to me on the N4 on Friday night. Santa Fe 2002 engine cut out when I was doing 70 in the fast lane. Had to coast over to the hard shoulder. Mechanic checked the timing belt and crankshaft, all ok. Turns out it blew a fuse for the fuel pump. I was having problems accelerating back a few months ago but that disappeared.

Hi, I have a 2.0 litre diesel 2001 santa fe, and it cuts out completely while driving, especially under load such as hill climbing above 2000rpm which seems like a fuel pressure issue. So many possibilities for repair. It starts again after a few minutes but cuts out again and again. Im not sure where to start to keep cost down to rectify. New fuel rail pressure valve may be at fault, fuel pump, injectors, EGR recirculating valve and crankshaft position sensor. The fault code that showed from ECU on laptop was "low fuel pressure". The fuel filter was replaced regularly. Any tips would be welcomed greatly.
