Head Gasket Replacement

    Hey all,

My 95 corolla passed its NCT in May and I got a new disc for a year but literally two days after it passed, the radiator went and I had to have it replaced. Over the last few weeks I noticed that the car was overheating and I have brought it to a number of mechanics and they all agree that the head gasket is gone.

I was just curious to know do you think the car is worth fixing? I have been quoted E500 to replace the head gasket but I have been told by a mechanic friend that head gasket replacements rarely work and that given the car’s age it would use a lot of oil if the head gasket was replaced and that I should think about buying a new car.

The car has done 250000 miles and is in good condition otherwise and has no rust on the body etc and is running well. Would it be worth fixing the car or is it a waste of money?

    Thanks in advance.

Perhaps, get it fixed for 500e, drive it until the tax and nct expires and if it is too hard on the oil, sell it and get your money back. If everything else is in alright condition
