Will these tyres pass NCT?

    Hi,

My 2 rear tyres have wear on the sides from another car that I had a while ago.

Will they pass NCT? They have more than enough rubber in the center surface.

    Thanks in advance.

    Short answer No

I think they probably will. The tread depth needs to be 1.6mm or more across the middle 75% of the tyre width to pass. I looks like you probably have that.

However this does not necessarily mean the tyres are good;)

    Please explain why.

I see no sidewall or tread damage and the legal requirement for tread depth applies only to the middle 3 quarters of the tyre. Just make sure they're on the right way around (directional).

i've definitely seen worse pass. they should be fine for the reasoning above.

one of ours passed with greater area worn, but then testers vary, nothing to lose by letting it through as it is

they may pass, but you may fail on wheel alignment, either way lob it through and see how u get on.

He might indeed, but those tyres aren't indicative of the OP's current car since they came like that off a previous car.

Yeah they should pass with the usual advisory as they are getting about the 2mm mark by the looks of them :)

I dont like them. But Ive advised customers to change considerably worse tyres than that. They chanced it. And the bloody things passed.
Id do the same and chance it too. But check your tracking and pressures, thats a pretty poor wear pattern.

Wait, are those Wolfrace AsiaTech wheels by any chance?:)

Like I said the tyres were like that from the previous car. Alignment is perfect because it was done about a month ago.

And yes, they are Wolfrace wheels. I bought them a year or two ago for €100 with brand new tyres so they were worth it.

Hmmmm.... Looking through different jap drums, it must be either a Honda or a Toyota hatch of some kind!

Looks like a 4 stud in the first photo....
