apply directly to embassy?

hi all, ive been interested in doing usits 12 month graduate visa to usa. however this is very costly. im wondering is it possible to apply directly to the embassy for the relevant visa? usit is a travel agent so surely its possible to cut out middle man and apply direct to embassy?

also, i hold an irish passport, live in co. tyrone, and went to university in belfast, so would i be applying through dublin office or belfast?

Thanks for the Irish times link. Great information. Turns out I can't reply directly to the embassy and have to go through one of the sponsors. Usit or go4less etc.
