OK have been considering a sun holiday for a while and was wondering what would be the best location for the euro and value for money. Considering that the holiday and accommodation would be already paid for then what country would be the best value for money. I know that in most places you could get a meal or €5 or €20 etc depending on the place you choose to eat. I am more interested in the likes of clothes, electronics, consumer goods, tours and activities etc, It would also be nice to eat and drink at a reduced cost as well. What would be the average costs of these be in the following locations like Spain, Portugal, Malta, Gran Canaria, Tenerife, Turkey. Any other country recommendations would be greatly appreciated also.

    Thanks in Advance

Turkey is generally very cheap for clothes, leather goods, shoes, etc as most of the shopping is done in the market.

You will also get great bargains in the outlet stores where you can get big name brands for much less than the RRP (and you get to use a proper changing room unlike the market and Mustafa and his blanket held up on a piece of string!) lol For eg - Pierre Cardin suit (last seasons stock) €120, inc alterations. You can also get lots of denim wear from the likes of Lee, Wrangler, Rody, Levi etc. River Island and topshop also have a lot of clothes made in Turkey so you also sometimes find these items in the outlets.

Tours and activities are not exactly 'cheap' but very reasonable and cheaper than other EU countries for a similar tour. Boat trips etc are quite cheap, but if for example you wanted to go to a historical site, this would be on a par with Malta, Greece etc.

Electrical goods are surprisingly expensive in Turkey, in particular smaller consumer goods like mobile phones, cameras etc. Larger white goods are similar price to here, but when you consider the average wage is less than here they are still quite expensive. So generally you won't get bargains on electricals.

Some items that are good value that you might never think of are homewares such as curtains, cushions and lamps and light fittings. They do some amazing window treatments (as the Americans call them) and they are for practically nothing. AS are voile and net curtains etc (and they are not your run of the mill thing you get here). We bought beautiful light fittings for our house made from handblown glass (was a nightmare getting them home but well worth it). They are amazing and cost less than some bog standard lights from Woodies! We also bought light switches, and dimmer switches, again just because the equivalent contemporary designs here were costing €20 each and I think we got switches and dimmers for the whole house for about €40!

So some 'unusual' bargains you might not straight away think of, in addition to food and drink also being very cheap. It doens't hurt either that its outside of the EU and you can get duty free! :)
