as above is it still the case that if you are caught by camera speding in the UK on an irish licence then they cannot put the points on your irish licence? this was always the case but i thought that they had changed it....

Caught in NI or Britain? It'll be 2015 at the earliest before points are transferable between countries so your safe there. They'll create a ghost license for you so that if you change to a UK license soon, the points will then become activated. If your a regular cross border driver I'd pay the fine, PSNI are pretty good at enforcing the collection of outstanding fines.

You should be fine, but hypothetically, if your cruising on the motorway at 80mph past quite a few speed cameras don't be surprised if the operator phones the local patrol car to go have a word with you.

Yeah, that's the big difference between Ireland and the UK, the traffic corps in the UK is actively tracking speeders on the motorway and going after them there and then.

Unlikely, there is no fixed speed cameras on the motorways in UK watch out for them on the A roads tho. And the speed vans are seperate companies and if you see more than one of them in a day then that would be very very strange.

Just watch out for the traffic corps. They will give you an on the spot fine. And you can't get points on your irish license at the moment.
