How you know the difference between a real breitling watch and a fake ?

It depends on the watch. Some are simple to tell apart, some are almost impossible without opening the watch and examining the movement.

    What watch?

Buy the seller as much as the watch itself.. That's not a foolproof way of telling but it's a good starting point. Are you talking about a face to face deal or fleabay?! If its fleabay you'll have no way of telling till you've parted with your hard earned cash! Have you any pics and more info or link to the watch in question?

For well known watch brands at the higher end there are numerous sites that will give tips on what to look out for in a fake.
For example -in the omega section of the watchuseek forum there is a good subforum called 'fake busters'. Have a look through that and you start to get a good feel for the mistakes a faker will make.
Good point above regarding the seller, and I would add that if the price is too good to be true then walk away.

If you are thinking of buying something then post some pics here and we can try to help.

Buy the seller as much as the watch itself.. couldn't agree more with Homer.

Also having the original box, paperwork, warranty card with matching serial numbers!!! a recent service bill with the matching serial number from a reputable watchmaker/jeweler (who you can call up and inquire about the watch and the service maybe), maybe original receipt can help establish your decision.

But any time in doubt just walk away from the deal. It's easier to find a good deal than replace you money.
