How to get a VAT number

    I have started a internship with a County Council and they want to pay me for doing work on a website and the up keep of it, but they cannot pay me unless I have a VAT number, how do I go about getting one and would it affect my Social Welfare.

    You shouldnt need a vat number but maybe a TCC - Tax clearance cert


    If you want a vat number you will need to register for Income tax and VAT on a form TR1

    Thanks, was on to Revenue there and they reckon I would not be earning enough to need a vat numer and told me to do up a TR1 form. Is a TCC the same as doing up the TR1 form.
