I plan on making an early morning trip to the lakes in Glendalough. I don't fancy parking on the road. Do the gates into the visitor centre car park open early? Or is it safe enough to park on the road?

The road is a bit tight for parking, especially given buses etc go up it. You might try calling them - contact details are available here;

Upper car park has a €4 charge, lower one is free IIRC
