Congratulations! Exciting times ahead :) Polish weddings are a great craic. The only tip I'd give you - book your venue asap. People book their weddings 2-3 years in advance because summer is a very popular season. Best of luck!

May and July would not be popular months for weddings as the names of these months in Polish do not contain the letter 'R' (Polish superstition that getting married in the months without the letter R brings bad luck;-))

Average price of the wedding package is between 40-100e but the most expensive ones will include unlimited alcohol for guests.

In Poland it would not be expected from the guests to buy their own drinks from the bar.

The cost of the wedding packages are comparable to Irish ones but everything else is cheaper e.g. flowers, photographer, DJ etc..So the average wedding budget is around 8-10k euro..

I was at a Polish wedding in Poland 2 years ago, probably the best wedding I was ever at. The wedding lasted 3 days, day before the wedding was everyone meeting up at the hotel for drinks and food (everyone paid for themselves). On the day, the ceremony was held in a local church, then back to the hotel for a huge meal. Food just kept coming out, mostly family style service with large flats put in the middle of every table and you just eat what ever you want. The tables had bottles of vodka and mixers on them and the staff kept replacing the bottles as the emptied. I'm nearly sure the groom told me he had bought the vodka (100 bottles for about 150 people:eek:) The dancing started after the meal and the food kept on going, I dont think there was ever a time all night without some sort of food on the tables.
The next day was more informal BBQ, everyone who was at the wedding was back for the next day, it was probably the most enjoyable day as again, loads of food, loads of drink (vodka again) and a DJ done the music for a good few hours.
I think it was the first Irish wedding that the hotel done as they weren't ready for people buying drinks at the bar. Normally the Polish people at weddings just drink the alcohol thats provided (vodka), but the Irish would go to the bars for drinks themselves (between drinking the vodka). On the first night the hotel ran out of everything, no larger, no whiskey, things like Jack Daniels, Southern Comfort were gone within hours. They restocked the next day, but still underestimated what they needed.
