The 2 week rule

Just wondering what people think of the " I'll be in touch within the next two weeks either way" malarkey you hear at the end of an interview? When is it a good time to ring or send an e-mail in requesting an update etc. Before the two weeks window or after? Or should I just wait and let it go until I hear something or not?

Yesterday marked 2 weeks since I attended the interview. When I applied for the job they wanted 2-3 years experience in the role where 3rd level qualifications would be an advantage but not necessary. I applied all the same knowing I had little experience in the field but a degree that has some relevance. The interviewer suggested that he didn't mind that I have no experience due to my degree and other qualifications etc. Overall I feel that interview went very well.

Just wondering if anyone has any horror/happy ending stories after the dreaded 2 week statement.

If they said they will be in touch within two weeks, and you hear nothing within two weeks, contact them...
