Rattle under vectra

Rattle heard when hiving over bumps or on bumpy roads. I slid under and banged around with a rubber hammer and it seems that the problem is something like debris is sitting on that tray you see in the pictures attached.

Anyone an idea what that tray is?

Looks like an exhaust heat shield?

Cheers. Any thoughts why it would have debris rattling around in there? I've not noticed anything odd with the exhaust or other noise

Sometimes shields themselves can rattle, bolts/washers getting rusted and so on. Check all the fixings you can find that holds it to the body of the car.

Could be some small stones but what you said happens more often.

Thanks guys. I jacked it up at the weekend and took a gander but it's going to be a pain in the bum removing the shield to take a look. Might leave it to the next service when it's up high and get a pro to take a gander. It definitely looks like there's debris inside there rather than the shield itself rattling. I figure that from giving it a few whacks with a rubber hammer.

Thanks for all your advice. I'll try and remember to update this post whenever I get it resolved for anyone else who has the issue.

Possibly a few blasts with an air hose will clear whatever is stuck up there.

Bit of a tight squeeze. No room for anything to come out too. I'd say you'd have to pop off the tray
