Woman gets 20 years for firing a warning shot.
In 2012, a Florida mother of three received a 20-years prison sentence for firing a warning shot into the ceiling to deter her ex-husband from attacking her.

The case is receiving renewed media attention after the Zimmerman verdict, because Marissa Alexander pled self-defense under Florida's stand your ground law. She claims that her ex-husband attacked her and made her fear for her life. She had already taken out a protective order against him after he had assaulted her, including one incident that put her in hospital. She had never been in trouble with the law before her arrest.

According to sworn depositions, Alexander was living at her mother's house after separating from her husband Rico Gray. He came to the house and "flew into a jealous rage after discovering, while poking through her cellphone, that she had sent pictures of their newborn daughter to her first husband," according to Reason. Alexander was in the bathroom at the time.

She got 20 years in prison for firing a warning shot into the ceiling because of the mandatory minimum setences. She was seemingly charged with attempted murder?

    Is her ex-husband Spiderman??

If you can read this, you're too close!

Wow, that is ridiculous. What was she meant to do, risk being put back into hospital??

That man shouldn't be walking the streets!! I hope he doesn't get custody of the children :/

During their period back together Alexander was charged with assaulting him.

Ya but this little angel seems to be the type you want walking the streets? she seems just as bad

From what I've read of it she left the house and the danger only to return back and then fire a "warning shot".

because she decided to put herself back into that situation it was seen as assault and not self defense.

As I mentioned in the other thread the woman walked out of the house to her car, got a gun, returned back into the house and took a shot at her husband (who was standing with their two kids). This isn't a case of self defence and as such she was found guilty and given the minimum.

EDIT: Here's a link to the states case LINK
