    We had one of these:
    CC-86-024-800.jpg

Oil pressure switch was leaking, and my da forgot to top up the oil.

He had pulled out the center electrical contact and replaced with a self tapper, so no warning light:mad:

A Carina II saloon got in 1985, RZS 790. A solid car my Dad for ten years. He was looking at a big Renault, but luckily went for something that would last the distance. This had fine velour trim and utterly solid plastics. His Miafiore he had before that, for a short time, had chronic rust within two years, while before that again, the Avenger was rust free. RZS 790 died in the first scrappage scheme. My Mam said my Dad shed a tear when it was taken for scrappage. I'll try find a photo.

Many's the fine car that went for scrappage  people just panicked over the NCT with the govt/SIMI egging them on by saying 60% would fail etc :mad::mad:

The bloody SIMI got their bonanza sales for a while, now they're trying this 131/132 lark but nobody's biting :p Hope all those SIMI dealers go to the wall

I certainly understand your annoyance. This country hasn't even assembled volume ckd cars since the 1980s, let alone had a proper manufacturing effort since Ford of Cork closed. Yet thanks to SIMI's skilled lobbying there are no end of wheezes from scrappage, NCT to number place changes to keep up sales of an imported luxury. Also closed dealerships are not easily put to other uses, and can make a decent place look a kip.

Still, a reasonable few garages will do tyres (Lwr Kimmage Rd), exhaust system (KCR ind est, forget the name) and servicing (off Sundrive Rd) when I'm indisposed, and they're very poorly in these times. I can't do certain things, nor I can afford a continual back and forth to England for bigger jobs.

131/132s are pretty rare, even at this stage of the year, and with some modest and precarious economic pickup. Old car owners have their recent import re reg plates starting with 12000 or 12000, which look a bit crappy.

In the south east. Those pics are just generic off the web though, my parents cars were scrapped long before I got into the classic scene sadly. I'd love to have that old Delux these days.
