hello, any weekend I head out drinking on a Monday and Tuesday I feel so down I feel like the whole world is against me and like I have no friends even tho I do have group of loyal friends, I also feel like I did something wrong even when I haven't, its takes until wednesday or Thursday to get back to normality for me and feel sane again

I'm not surprised! Alcohol is a depressant...

Maybe you should speak to a GP?

Yep, happens to me all the time. I drink very little as a result, which sucks coz I like going out :(

Do you drink the same thing all the time ? I find different drinks have different effects on me, in terms of 'the fear' afterwards.

Limit your alcohol intake- to say 2 drinks- and then switch to non-alcoholic drinks. Aside from anything else- while alcohol is a depressive agent, it also dehydrates you- which isn't ideal in our current weather.

The big problem tends to be peer pressure from the groups we go out with- a feeling that we *need* to conform- and the sodding 'ordering a round'.

Get out of the habit you're in- if you have decent friends- they'll help.

    Hi op

I don't drink much anymore but when I used to go out I was exactly like you. I felt really depressed even though I don't suffer from depression & would have a sunken/sick feeling in my stomach that I'd done something I shouldn't have. I've no advice other than to cut down the amount you drink it's not worth it.

    Classic Fear symptoms :)

I don't miss it.. gave it up last year.. I hated that feeling on a Sunday and Monday where you just want someone to come and give you a hug and tell you it's going to be ok :D

I started getting the horrors in my early twenties. It feels like you're a big fake, you made a complete eejit of yourself last night, and the basic tasks of daily life are beyond you. The weird thing is I never did anything really terrible when I was drunk, but I felt as if I had, or as if I definitely would the next time.
It got worse and worse, even though I was never a heavy drinker. I cut back, and it still got worse. So I quit. Now I hardly drink at all, and I don't miss it. (I always think people sound sort of denial-ish when why say that, but it's true!) The very odd time I might have one drink, I can feel it the next morning, but it serves to remind me why I only had the one.
I'm not a pioneer or anything, and I can still just about tolerate my friends when they're drunk, but it's a great feeling to wake up on a Saturday morning thinking "Brilliant, a day off!" instead of "I wish I had never been born."

some of my friends can drink all night and are fine the next day and go and do normal stuff, I am lieing in bed stuck to the pillow after a night out, its so bad, the 2nd day I feel even worse by the third day im starting to come round but still not 100 per cent

To be honest, if drink affects you that badly, you should just stop drinking.

I'm very lucky in that I don't get hangovers (well, not often, maybe one a year), I don't get a depressive feeling, and that's even if I mix a load of different drinks. However, I've cut down quite a bit on drinking (from one night a week to maybe one a month or so) because I don't want to be too sleepy to exercise the next day (alcohol makes me sleepy) and I feel a hell of a lot better since I cut down on drinking. I never felt 'bad,' but I feel healthier now. I also enjoy being sober on nights out, as strange as that sounds!

Really though, if it's affecting you so badly and for so many days, you should either cut down dramatically, or stop drinking completely for a while. Is a night out really worth all of those effects?

Completely normal consequence of overdoing the booze, known as *The Fear*.

If it's getting on top of you, then you should consider either cutting back, or perhaps ceasing completely.

Cutting back, or changing what you drink, should definitely help. I know "the fear" all too well. However my best advice is to keep yourself busy. I know some Sundays the last thing I want to do is actually do stuff but the days I sit around feeling sorry for myself are the days I feel worse. The best thing for me when I'm hungover is to not be alone. I usually spend my hangover days with my bf or a friend, and honestly it makes it easier when you've someone to share the pain. But forcing yourself to get up and do something really makes a difference. Even if it's just walking down the road and going for a nice lunch, doing a bit of exercise (swimming is amazing when hungover) or going to the cinema...I always feel better on a Sunday night knowing I did something that day. Also, try and eat well. It makes the WORLD of difference. Lots of water and fruit throughout the day usually make me feel absolutely fine by evening.

Unfortunately I don't always follow the above advice :o But I try to most of the time and it honestly helps.

I've never experienced this, ever. I'm always fascinated/shocked by people who say they get this, yet continue to drink enough to cause it? I've never been hungover for more than the following day, and I've never felt depressed or have "the fear" after drinking heavily, if I did I wouldn't do it. I started to get worse hangovers in my mid twenties so I stopped drinking as much, the obvious option. If you can't cope with the effects of the amount you drink you need to drink less.

No surprise - very common and yer not abnormal in any way. First day after alcohol binge most will have a physical hangover. The psychological hangover is only really apparent on the second day when physically ye should feel better (actually its also present throughout the first day as well but goes unnoticed . Solution - drink less and certainly don't binge drink !

Oh yes, you're not alone there OP.

And if it's a night out with workmates and the bosses on a Friday night you might be crying all weekend with The Fear. Convinced everyone hates you and you've offended people and everyone is talking about you. No way can you face Monday morning.

When the truth is you got drunk, went home and nothing happened at all!

Cut back or take a break OP, simple as that.
