can you get a portable CD-drive? Connects via USB, which you can still boot from. Costs are approx 40-80euro. But often come in handy when you have a netbook.

You should see a hard Drive inside myComputer called Recovery.

you can enter on boot up and repair.

check user manual to see what buttons to hold on start up

    what OS is it?

Your local repair shop should have install disks to reinstall it for you. Might even know someone in your area with one? the disk itself shouldn't matter (unless it's like dell/asus written on it, and not a clean OS disk...).

what do you mean by it just keeps doing repair? do you not select that option? (as oppose to another..like pressing F8 continuously when PC starts up to get into safe mode or f2 to get into the bios.)

hi the os is windows 7

what i mean is when i turn the laptop on i get 2 options launch system repair (recommended) or start normaly,so ive tried both options and it keeps going back to system recovery options, and then i do start up repair

and if you press f8 continuously when you turn on the system?..anything happen?.. I have OS's disks if you're nearby ..

Or you could search for local repair service and get a price off them

when i press f8 continuously it goes to advanced boot options, ive tried all the safe modes, last known configuration didnt do anything else

ive tried something else, ive done f8 and disabled automatic restart on boot failure and now i have blue screen with some codes

what error code is showing up on the BSOD? (blue screen)

Your best bet is probably to get an OS cd from someone.

There will be a recovery partition on the net book.
There is usually a couple of keys you need to hit on boot up to access this.
You don't need a recovery or o's dvd
Look up online or in the manual for the recovery process for your make and model.

They've already said that PC world replaced the HDD so I'm kinda guessing that any recovery partition is long gone

You could ask PC world but I wouldn't hold out much hope for them taking ownership of the problem

you could download windows 7 iso from links on http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-windows_install/windows-7-download-file-sizes-from-digital-river/6977bad2-26d4-4c73-9345-e24a335b8f2e

and then burn a dvd to do an install , there was a way of doing this to USB ?

Or you could mention the error messages if any in case this is all a wild goose chase

how old is the laptop if its under 6 months you should demand that it goes back to the makers.

or else demand a refund that its the second time this has happened.

Based on the error code it looks like it can't mount any bootable media

Go to a computer that has windows 7 and a CD burner
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-ie/windows7/create-a-system-repair-disc
and try to make a repair disk if the computer has all the files it saves a lot of messing around.

If it looks for a windows DVD then you'll have to borrow or make one.

Don't buy an external DVD for one use. A 4GB USB key will do the same job :)
    http://www.microsoftstore.com/store?Action=html&Locale=en_US&SiteID=msusa&pbPage=Help_Win7_usbdvd_dwnTool

typical microsoft they get you to go looking for bootsect.exe (which makes the usb key bootable) instead of providing a link to it
    [see next post for unetbootin]

Boot up your computer from the repair disk or DVD

    http://www.tech-recipes.com/rx/2605/fixing_the_dreaded_unmountable_boot_volume_error/
    Windows 7 Directions:

    1. Boot from the Windows 7 DVD.
    2. Select Repair my computer.
    3. Select Command Prompt
    4. From the command prompt enter the following command: Chkdsk /R C: where “C” is your boot drive.
    5. Answer Y to check the disk the next time that the system restarts.
    6. Reboot the system. After the reboot, Windows will check the hard disk and try to repair the damaged area.
    7. If you still get the error after this process, repeat the process but try rebuilding the master boot record at the command prompt with the following command: bootrec /fixboot and then rebooting

If your system can be saved, you should now be able to boot back into Windows without a problem!

There are other tools that you can use to make the hard drive bootable again.

Actually there is an easier way - get the ISO and use unetbootin to make a bootable USB key.

usual advice is to see how much your laptop is going for second hand add the cost of repairs and compare that to buying a new entry level model , which will come with guarantee etc.

at the worst you can take out the old HDD and put it in an external box , should pickup one for €5-20 on the interweb , and you can still use the laptop with a monitor (or TV with vga input )

when you say wires, best to ask on the laptop forum as that's a hardware issue. ( wire is usually the WiFi antenna, the LCD is usually flat ribbon cable - but varies )
