    What is the best way getting to Athlone from Cork using public transport?

    Change there for a train to athlone.

    Fly from Abbeyshrule to Dublin and then Dublin to Cork.

    There used to be a bus to Portlaoise & then a bus to Athlone but that stopped... Its a completed pain in the ass now... Train to Portlaoise costs a fortune but might be your best bet... If not but to Limerick & then change to Athlone :/
