skoda octavia gear selection problem

Took car for a long drive yesterday without any problems. Got back into it later and found it troublesome selecting gears.

Needs a little bit of force to push in to gear - sometimes fails to get into gear at all.... have to freewheel for a bit before managing to select gear.

if engine is running I cannot get it into first gear. Turn off engine and no problem selecting any gears.

cannot select reverse at all if engine is running.

any suggestions? hydraulics? gear box? clutch?

Would like to know what it is, too.
Had the same problem, but it went away somehow, so didn't go to garage to check. But 1st and reverse isn't as smooth to put in as it should.
Sometimes there is noise coming from gearbox when putting in reverse, kind of like it wasn't synchronized or something.

Suprised there wasn't single answer to this post so bumping it may help.

I had a similar problem with my 02 Octavia a few months ago. Not as severe, but was getting hard to get it into gear,,gears were crunching while changing etc.

My mechanic changed the gearbox oil,,and it was like a new gearbox after it. No more problems.

Not saying it's the problem your having, but it would be a cheap option to start with.
