Baby Seagull stuck in our apartment complex

So over the past two days there has been a grey feathered young gull stuck in our gated complex. It seems he can't fly otherwise he would have fecked off by now. There is a few nests on the roof tops of the building so he probably fell off and is now stuck in the courtyard area.

People have been leaving out water and bread for him.

Anyone knows if theres something else we should do? Should we try put him back on the rooftop. He's crapping all over the place, it's getting messy and surely a diet of just bread and water is not good for him. Should we call the DSPCA?

Maybe he'll start flying soon but do they need to do that from a height for their first flight?

As for his age, I have no clue but I'll try, he looks like this guy but with black legs and feathers are more grey...http://farm5.staticflickr.com/4137/4937631762_52fd1e835c_z.jpg

Any suggestions people? I would take a pic of him but my camera battery is dead and I can't find the charger sorry.

Have the parent birds visited it?

How 'complete' do its wings look - does it ever stretch them out or flap them much?

I'd say if you went and put it on a rooftop there'd be a risk of putting it on the wrong rooftop and another pair of gulls would not take kindly to that.....

Worms would probably be good food for them if you have any way of sourcing them....

I'd put him on the roof top ASAP. Most gulls are colony breeders so would not resent other birds' chicks. The parents might be too frightened to go down to countyard to feed the bird. Fish/Fish offal would be the best thing to feed the bird.

Haven't seen the parent birds visit. He flaps his wings quite a bit and splashes his head in the little water container someone set down for him.

I'm not sure about how we'd get him back on the roof though. Catching him might be tricky even though he doesn't seem afraid when people walk past him. Also the only way to the rooftop is going to top floor apartment and climbing onto the roof from a balcony. I'm not willing to do a Spiderman really.

Seems a bit drastic to be calling the DSPCA for a gull. There's a tackle shop not too far from here so I might get him a few worms. Though how much do I give him? Do I just leave the container there or give him two every few hours or something?

If he doesn't start flying in the next few days I've a feeling things will get worse. We could usher him out of the gate of the complex but I feel he's probably better off where he is if he can't fly.

It's most likely a young Herring gull which are in sharp decline in Ireland. Ring the DSPCA. The gull is important.
