Kitten faeces

    Hi all,

We adopted a kitten about 3 weeks ago. She is 7 weeks now and her faeces were ok the first few days but since they vary from not very solid to diarrhoea and it's very dark compared to how light it was the first few days.

The vet advised us to get the I/D Specialised food for her so we have been giving her that now for just under 2 weeks. She is very playful and has great appetite so she's not by all means sickly or anything. When I rang the vet after it hadn't changed after a week he told us just to keep going with the I/D food.

She also hasn't had her vaccinations yet as the vet advised her to get her tummy right first.

Any cat specialists out there that can give me some advise on what to do for her?

    Has she been wormed?

Went through the same thing a few weeks ago. Worming her should sort it out.

    Thank you for your response.
I've given her the worming tablet according to instructions of vet. She warned me for worms to cOme out but they didn't. Wednesday I have to give her another part of the tablet so hope that if she has any they'll come out. The vet said I should give her the tablet every 2 weeks till the tablet is gone (quarters) so Wednesday would be her 2nd dose.

Giving kittens worming tablets is hard.

My three dogs: Bit of butter and its gone.

Kitten: Eats all the butter and leaves tablet.

I actually managed to give it to her mashed in her food as she wouldn't touch the tablet otherwise. Is it less or not effective this way?

I don't know if I'm honest. I was going to mash it up into some cats milk. For some reason he is suckling on wooly jumpers and the like.

We feed him burns stuff from the local vet. 11e for a months supply and he loves it. That also helped sort his poops out.

Ha! I must look into that one so! I'm now paying e11 for about a weeks supply with the I/d pouches!

Yes I powdered it up and put it in with a little bit of a pouch wet food. First she didn't touch it but then ate it anyway.

Also my vet told me to stop with the kitten milk and just give her wet food and water. Even mashing a tiny bit of water with her wet food as she's not drinking at all. Vet said that the food is about 85% water anyway but as I don't want to rush dehydration I'm putting a teaspoon of water through her food and she eats it so at least she stays hydrated.

What breed of cat is she? Our lad is good on the water and dry food. The burns stuff is great value. If we mix in anything he will eat around it to get at the burns.

I had a similar problem.with my Papillon bitch. Delayed vaccinations due to upset stomach. Thought it was parvo as she was bleeding etc. It can be an expensive pain o_O

She's a tabby plain old house cat. Not sure of specific breed as a colleague needed to get rid of his kittens and it was a case of a quick handover after we said we'd take one off his hands.

She's growing good though. Weighed her again this morning and she's now 674gr compared to 550 last week. So she's doing great in all other areas. Climbing onto everything not a bother ;)

Are your arms in tatters? I've a half Bengal male and he is getting BIG. Has me ripped up. I'll have to buy savlon in bulk.

I would be amazed of she didn't start forming more solid poops soon.

Hehe yes the feet are more her thing. I'm trying to teach her to be gentle with her claws and she's learning fast. The first days everything was grabbed onto with those little claws. Now really only when we've been working and she been alone for a few hours is when she's more excited and forgets about her claws. But then I just pick her up and put her on the floor and ignore her for a bit until she climbes on too of the couch again to play more hihi. Can't really ignore her fluffy little face anyway..

Grabbing the back of the neck chills them out big time. They cant even move when you do that, they go to jelly. They love it apparently. I do that when he scratches to chill him out. Now he doesnt use claws and has resorted to rugby tackling my dogs in ninja stikes.

Beautiful looking. Wanted one that looked like that but when I rang the guy it was gone.

Haha I love it. Id say the dogs are less impressed ;)
Cookie tries to stalk but is so clumsy she's make herself well noticed before going in for the kill!

The papillon bitch plays with him. She uses her mouth so the cat leans back and punches her in the head. She was used to being head honcho.
