Nice soil, but personally would not reseed in this weather.

Moisture is so important for a reseeding.

Drill in dust, grow it must - is what I was always told and I would nearly agree.

I have re-reseeding to do but will wait until I see some moisture on the way as I know I can get the job done in 24 hrs and have slug issues which I dont want seed sitting there but slugs wouldnt be around either in this weather

I have 20 acres burned off for DD grass and we are holding off.

Seeds will sit waiting for moisture to germinate so they are as well off in the bag. Like Bob we are ready to go at the first sign of moisture.

Last thing I want are for seeds to germinate only to get baked by the sun.

20 acres ploughed here too, will get to stage ready for seeding but Will hold off putting them in until rain forecasted. Least was able to plough it this year, was planned for last year but part of that field became a lake for the summer!!!

If I was DD on MY land I would work away, I have ploughed a field after a failed DD so will sit and wait. If DDing you could work deep and leave the seed at the bottom of the slot where it would find enough moisture and be protected for heat and wind in micro climate. I remember in 2006 grass seed sat in the ground for 12 weeks and nothing, and when the rain came, bang and had grass to graze in 14 days

I be inclined to get on with it as well. Seed will stay dry on the ground as well as in the bag. If you have applied your lime as well it will only be a case of sit and wait. You should not have a weed issue as weed seeds will not germinate either as the top 1-2'' of soil will be too dry.

When the rain comes the seed will take off am going to start spraying off s few small bit that I want to reseed. It could be 3-4 weeks before we get rain so it is a case of getting with it.

Yes moisture is important however as long as you do not get enough to germinate the seed 2-3 wet days and then dry weather. Places reseeded in May/Juner are under pressure at present.

Was planning to spray 2nd cut later this week with a view to reseeding after harvesting silage the following week. Due to dry conditions considering leaving it now and getting 1 grazing out of it. I'm tight on grazing ground as a lot more closed for 2nd cut than normal. What do you gurus think?

I wouldn't be a guru just do it - but in your case, why the hurry to reseed? There is another 2 months left maybe when you can get the reseed in...
I wouldn't see why you'd take the chance in this weather, it costs enough like...

Uncle was telling me of years back a la he knew reseeded in may, and had weather like this for the whole summer, seeds didn't germinate untill late August / September when they got a bit of rain, but were absolutly perfect other than it took a few months untill they started to germinate

There is no issue with reseeding in really dry weather. The real problem is if you reseed after a wet spell and it becomes dry. In this scenario weeds seeds that are less than a 1/2'' below surface will germinate before the grass sees and you may be unable to spray them as the grass is too young.

    Direct drilling I presume?

OP if you do go ahead with it make sure you roll it to keep moisture coming up to the surface by capilliary action. Neighbour sowed a couple of weeks back and the only place it came up was the wheel tracks.

If the seat's wet, sit on yer hat, a cool head is better than a wet ar5e.
