Lads, I'm having trouble with bad breath. When I wake up in the morning my breath really, really stinks. I go to brush them and have somthing to eat. 10-15 minutes later the smelly breath returns.

I have noticed now that I seem to have bad breath most of the time. What can be done about this. I don't wanna be chewing gum all day :)

My teeth are in ok condition and I brush twice a day so that can't be the problem :)

Get your stomach checked out.... It could be the cause....

It could also be a chronic dental infection such as an impacted wisdom tooth, toucan brush all you like and it won't help....

GP - then onward referral to a consultant. GPs are only gateways in my not so humble opinion.

go to a dentist first. you say your teeth are in ok enough condition, but that may not be the case.
we all see people who will swear blindly that they clean adequately but they just don't.

If you have a medical card it will be free to visit a gp. Contact your gp first to see if he accepts medical cards.

If you have a stomach problem like acid reflux the acid may have worn your teeth and a dentist will pick up on this and advise on a course of action. Could also be a gum infection which a dentist would be better at picking up.

thinking acid reflux and bad breath is like thinking zebras when hearing hooves. fair enough, it could well be, but check the obvious things first.

    Apologies.

OP. Go to your free GP and don't take dental or medical advice from strangers on the internet.

dental check ups are free with the medical card also. don't go to your GP. you will be wasting time.

whatever you do, don't take medical/dental advice from a stranger on the internet who's forté is accountancy

Unless you think bad breath can only be caused by dental issues the OP should go to a medical doctor. You're right the OP should not take dental or medical advice from an accountant, nor anyone biased.

90% of oral malodour is caused by bugs living in your mouth or tongue. A good cleaning with a dentist and some oral hygiene advice will usually solve this. The dentist can also spot uncommon things like tonsil stones....if you go to you GP and haven't been to the dentist already the GP's advice will be to go to the dentist. Best go to the dentist first. OP if you have never been to a GP on your medical card you will need to register with one first.

I am getting some passive aggressive vibes against dentists and GP's here which is not useful, I would expect a fellow moderator to try and maintain the peace on a thread and not be inflamatory. Everyone on this thread that has given advice is a dentist, and their advice is sound, as is the advice they have been giving for years to people for free in their own time. Clogging up a ENT surgeons outpatients clinic cause your breath is bad is not good advice.

Oh yeah, your visit to the dentist or GP on a medical card is not free, its just that somebody else is paying for it.
