Seriously, Is this a problem in some paddocks for people? Herded the cattle today. They were are huddled up under the bushes. I wouldn't like to have them in an open field.

people dont realise the importance of shade, plenty of hedges in my land a some trees with very little paddocks thankfully

A few lopsided whitethorns is what passes for shade here. No trees can survive too close to the coast and too high and exposed for them. Flipside is that we have even today a steady breeze which cools everything that little bit.

Had a good bit until a new road cleared one side of the boundry this year.

Leave a shed open for them. They come in around mid day and leave after a few hours.

Have had the milkers in a paddock with a decent bit of shade, they were all happyly panned out in the middle of it in the sun when I went to bring them up today. Suppose the bit of a seabreeze helps us also.

During last good spell of weather I lost a HEx bull about 3 months old..
Vet reckoned he fell asleep in the sun as he had sycamore trees for shade..
    Bummer :o

Being on high ground, it is often windy/breezy so trees and ditches give a break to the wind.
This also helps the cattle with shade from rain or sun.
In this weather, water and shade are very important to reduce the stress of the heat, like us they don't like being stuck out in full hot sun for hours with no respite.

Cut all the whitethorn in a 300 m ditch for reps last year but left the big ash along the ditch standing , ewes in this field spend most of the day under them.

Bob mind the Maui Jims, they break easily , lm finding it hard to get sticky plaster to match the frame colour of mine

Great idea and a handy way to start creep feeding

Problem with shade is that when its raining they stand there also and plough the area

And flies. Can't go near a ditch with the flies trying to eat you these days.
