Passport has 4 months to run, do you still need 6 mths if you go to US for 2 week holiday ?

No, you are fine, as long as the passport is good on your return date.

You will see rules on some US government sites that say your passport needs 6 months validity to visit the US.....BUT....Ireland is one of the handfull of countries exempt from that rule, your passport just needs to be valid long enough to cover your trip to the US.

As above, if it is an Irish passport you are fine.

I was in US in November & passport due to expire in January - no problems.

Just needs to be valid on your return date.

Above advice is 100% correct but in case anyone else comes across this thread while researching the question, the definitive answer is on the US Embassy (in Dublin) website .....

In most cases, to enter the United States, you must have a passport that is valid for at least six months after the date you enter. However, the United States has an agreement with some countries (including Ireland) that allows you to enter on a current passport up to the actual date of expiration. An Irish passport need remain valid only for the duration of the holder's stay in the United States.
