Jailbroken ipad in recovery mode

Hi all....Foolishly I tried to update my jailbroken ipad on iTunes. This has resulted in my ipad going into recovery mode. I know I can restore it to factory settings but id like to keep the material I have on it if possible. Does any one know if this can be done. Thanks for ur help in advance
