Need to change the brake pads on my car pretty soon so I called my local garage to get a price for a full set of standard pads. They are Mintex pads and are pretty cheap. I have never used Mintex brake pads before. Are they good. I have been told before that cheaper brake pads are noisy. Has anyone who has used Mintex experienced this but most importantly are they any good.

I've used them and they're fine. Used them on a defender/clio/xantia and I was happy with them.

EDIT: I've mintex disc/brake shoes on the clio and they're fine too

I wouldn't use them on my own car. They are cheap for a reason. The likes of Jurid, TRW, Textar or ATE are much better quality but also more expensive. You get what you pay for at the end of the day.

Nothing wrong with mintex. I have them on my passat. Just checked them last week. I've 80k on the front set with no issues. Rear pads will need a change at next service.

Plenty of places sell them and they do the job. There are some cheap nasty pads out there, but Mintex seem to be just cheap.

Exactly, they won't light the world on fire, but they have decen performance for the price.

They are the budget brand for Textar and Pagid. As said above there are worse pads out there. If your car is anyway decent it would be worth spending a bit more for Textar or Pagid.

Abusing third set of mintex pads now.

A lot of heavy breaking done. They're not noisy at all. :P

They do exactly what it says on tin. ;)

Gotta say lads I've never had any problems with Mintex pads (or discs) and I've fitted them on a good few of our family cars. They work well, no major dust, and pretty quiet, what more could ya want.
I wouldn't actually consider them cheap either, they can be pricey enough, for the newer cars especially, but that's to be expected i suppose, they are a "brand name" after all.
Btw, bbability, 80k on a set of front pads is some going, especially in a Passat of all cars, I wouldn't get 80k outta two sets, but maybe that's just me!!
