    Hi,

After being on the social welfare for 6 months and doing two FAS courses which got me nowhere to be honest, I am now being put into a job club. I would like some feedback on job clubs and what to expect?
I never heard of a job club until today when my social welfare officer told me she was putting my name down for one.

    Thanks:)

I did the Job Club course myself, personally I found it very helpful. I hadnt had an interview outside of the l place I worked in for over ten years, and obviously hadnt needed to write a CV in that time either. Id been out of work a year when I did mine so confidence was slipping away, I was getting that "am I ever gonna f***ing work again" feeling.

They go over your CV and give you brutally honest feedback(I really needed it) but I thought the best thing was the fake interview they do at the end of it, it is a little corny of course but I found it invaluable. It was great practice and you get feedback so you know where/if your making a mess out of it. I think anyone who hasn't had a real interview in a long time should do one, it really cleared the nerves when I did a real one about 3 weeks later for a job I got through the Job Club!.....I passed my interview and im now near the end of the training period, I wouldn't have heard of the job ill be starting soon without them and I know I wouldn't have had the confidence to go for it without the kick up the ass they gave me.

So...go for it! it will have its corny moments but they will do everything they can to help you, it reflects very well on them if they lead people to employment so they will help, some people(me!!)need a kick up the ass and they provided it. Youll get out of it what you put it into it. At the very least it cant hurt!

Oh and as for what to expect its only on for about 3,4 hours a day, usually 10-1, apart from the cv and interview stuff(may be pointless and waste of time for many, I needed it as I said) they have people come in and tell you about other services, career guidance councillors, people from social welfare, that kind of thing. You will be in a group of about 10, I found they made a genuine effort to find people work, if you go in with a negative attitude you'll get sweet f.a out of it and you might as well have stayed in bed.

Hi just wondering has anyone availed of the Job Club service? I have to meet an officer from Social Welfare Friday, I'd say it's kind of an assessment and depending how that goes I may get to avail of Job Club. Anyone have any ideas as to what this meeting will be about, would I need to bring a copy of my CV, cover letter etc.?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance,
    Claudia
