If someone says something idiotic or are seemingly trying to get a rise out you, what approach do you tend to take? Ignore them and carry on; or acknowledge the comment and take issue with it?

    For example:

I updated my status on facebook (using this as it was the inspiration for the thread) and a bit of a conversation followed. It was about Game of Thrones. My uncle then just started spewing bollox about how this is so boring and some other shíte.

I wasn't in the slightest bit offended and I know that by putting anything on facebook means that anyone can then comment whatever they want.

Anyway, I chose to just ignore it and so did everyone else, and he went and deleted the comment. It got me thinking about how many times something like this can happen in real life and online. I would nearly always ignore the remark and just carry on as if nothing happened, but I know people who will always say something and it can often result in two adults squabbling like children, which can be very embarrassing to watch.

Depends on the comment I suppose and my own capability to wait and cool down before replying if at all. Different topics stir up different emotions. Hurling or football talk stirs a rise out of me more then alot of general stuff

Yeah depends what the subject is. Religion and abortion are 2 that come to mind that I just won't discuss anymore.

I let my feelings/thoughts be known quickly and then change the subject. Arguing never solves anything IMO if you are over 30.

But on a forum you can get stuck in as you don't know the antagonist, thereby you don't really fall out with him/her.

Depends on the comment and the person saying it really, and then depends on my mood too whether I'll bother picking them up on it or if I just can't be àrsed.

Almost always. It's a curse tbh.

One of my friends is a master at saying stupid stuff on purpose, just to get a rise out of us. By the time I've caught him it's always too late.

Though sometimes we really aren't sure if he is taking the piss or not.

I tend to type replies, read them again and delete them.
