Mechanical Keyboard

Recently picked up a Ducky Shine 2 (Orange LED)
It's beautiful and extremely satisfying to type with. I had a Corsair K60 with Cherry Red switches before it and I just didn't get on with it. With the Ducky, I'm looking for every and any excuse possible to type with it (like right now).

    :pac:

None of those manufacturers are well known for their peripherals. I think you're better off going for a keyboard from an established peripherals manufacturer instead of narrowing your choice by insisting on aesthetics like red LEDs.

Also, the Cooler Master and Corsair keyboards you linked both use red Cherry MX key switches. It's a personal choice, but I'm not a big fan of the red switches because their light actuation force often results in accidental key pressing. I'm not sure which key switches feature in the Thermaltake G-Unit as it doesn't say on their website.

    Some options:

ROCCAT Ryos MK Pro: http://www.roccat.org/Products/Gaming-Keyboards/ROCCAT-Ryos-MK-Pro/ (comes with blue, black, brown or red switches)

Razer BlackWidow: http://www.razerzone.com/gaming-keyboards-keypads/razer-blackwidow-2013 (comes with blue switches, although there's an ultimate edition with black switches)

SteelSeries 7G: http://steelseries.com/products/keyboards/steelseries-7g (comes with black switches)

Ducky Shine 2: http://www.duckychannel.com.tw/en/DK9008_shine2.html (I think it comes with blue, black, brown or red switches)

Of those, the MK Pro and Ducky Shine 2 are the only keyboard with LED backlighting.

What do you use your computer for, and what's your budget?

The ducky looks really nice. Where abouts did you order it from? Having difficulty trying to find a lot of these keyboards!

I use it mostly for gaming. The room i'm in is extremely dark so backlit is definitely what i need. With everything else around it red led's my OCD would get me if it were any other color! Was hoping for it to be around £100. But i could stretch a bit. That ROCCAT looks pretty amazing though!

Since you're into gaming I'd recommend going for a keyboard with black Cherry MX key switches. They don't make any noise and they're stiffer than the red ones, so you won't end up pressing the wrong key by mistake.

Based on your criteria I'd decide between the Ryos MK Pro or the Ducky Shine 2. The Ducky Shine 2 is a solid keyboard and there is a version with red LEDs. The Ryos MK Pro is only available with blue LEDs but it's definitely more suited to gamers as it has a large wrist rest, configurable lighting and lots of macro keys. I guess it comes down to which features you consider to be most important. You can choose from a variety of key switches with each keyboard; regardless of which one you choose take a read of this to see which ones suit you.

Reds or blacks are what i was leaning towards. I usually play with a headset on so i don't think the noise or feedback will be an issue. Really like the wrist rest on the Ryos. Looks like the Corsair i was thinking of getting. Pity about the Ducky not having one!

Any idea on this Qpad MK-85: http://www.amazon.co.uk/QPAD-MK-85-Gaming-Mechanical-Keyboard/dp/B006NXKEZE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1373650034&sr=8-1&keywords=Qpad+MK-85+Red+LED#productDetails

I'll be honest: I don't know all that much about QPAD's peripherals. Back when I was more serious about gaming they were known solely for their CT mousepads, and that's pretty much all they made. They were and still are great mousepads. Their move into electronics/peripherals must be fairly recent thing. It seems very similar to the Ducky Shine 2, with the main difference being that it has a detachable wrist rest. In terms of features the Ryos MK Pro still offers more in that the wrist rest is actually integrated into the keyboard (not detachable), the LED lighting is configurable, it has several macro keys and there's also an integrated media hub (USB and headset connectors). If the red LEDs is a big factor for you then I don't think you can go too wrong with the Ducky Shine 2 or the QPAD MK-85; I've used the Ducky Shine 2 and it's a quality keyboard, and if the QPAD MK-85 is built to the same standard as their mousepads (bit of a leap, I know) then it should be solid. However, if you can live without the red LEDs then it's the Ryos MK Pro I'd be going for, based on the additional features. Potentially an issue: the Ryos MK Pro hasn't actually been released yet; I think it's due to be released quite soon, though.

Decisions, decisions!! Not easy! Thanks for all the advice though. I might take the gamble and try out the QPAD. Going to be a huge upgrade from my logitech piece of dirt i have now! The Ryos would be my preferred choice definitely. But with those blue leds....My haf x would disown me!! Thanks again!
