Ah if theres a wrong way Montrose will seek it out and find it.

Louise started on 2fm in 2010 and more recently replaced the infamous Baz and Lucy weekend mornings.

Having listened to her its fairly obvious she doesnt prepare her links and essentially scours the internet and morning papers for things to talk about when she arrives in montrose before her show. She lacks warmth and general likeability. Thats just my opinion.

As I said on another thread Rick o Shea and Jenny Greene are probably the only two jocks on 2FM talking about.

While I would always welcome 'new young talent' its a massive jump for McSharry to go from (poorly) presenting a music driven weekend morning show to hosting a weekday midmorning magazine style show with a couple of hundred thousand listeners which requires a level of creativity that thus far Ive not heard from her.

Now i know Louise is a journo with journal.ie so maybe she has the requisite communication skills and intuitive ability to hit the ground running and fill tubs mediocre shoes, so I'll reserve judgement entirely till I hear her in full flow.

As an aside, while Louise is indeed young she still already works for rte so she's not exactly fresh talent. Knowing rte, whether she turns out to competent or not her stock will probably soar from here on.

No doubt Ronan 'time check, text numnber' Mc Caul will fill her shoes while away .. I cannot wait.

If Dan Healy wants to make 2fm a youth station again fair enough but you can't have a youth station with Ryan Tubridy, Colm Hayes, Larry Gogan and Dave Fanning on the weekday schedule, sure Chris Moyles at 39 was considered too old for BBC radio one. The youngest weekday presenter on 2fm is probably Rick o Shea who is 40+.

Judging by her contributions to the churnal, I'd be deeply sceptical. Journalism it ain't, lifting things straight from Reddit and reposting them as 'original content' it is : http://www.thejournal.ie/author/louise-mcsharry/

Totally agree, jack of all trades ...

Ronan McCaul is millions of miles better than this fool at weekend breakfast, which wouldn't be too hard

Ronan has a terrific voice but as Ive said before on here, he has one link, literally one link: Hi this is Ronan Mccaul on 2fm , the time is X amd my text number is Y, that was A and coming up next is B. That is the extent of variety he puts into his links, he doesnt deserve to be on the national broadcaster even as cover with the lack of prep he puts into his shows.

Do ye not think it's jumping the gun a bit to judge her now before she's even sat in for Tubridy? Particularly, calling her a "fool" is a bit harsh, "ford fiesta". Give the girl a chance!

Louise's first show this morning, in fairness to her she is lively enough and hasnt fluffed any lines considering the pressure she'd be under, certainly better than she is on weekends, at saying that she wouldnt be my cup of tea. We are 25 mins into the show, there have been two songs but the rest has been loaded with talk, FAR TOO much talk !!! It perfectly illustrates why 2FM should be MUSIC only.

I disagree. Admittedly that's partly down to my own bias because I have no interest in music radio, but I really don't believe that a music only national radio station could cut it these days. Talk radio just attracts more listeners and as a result - more advertising revenue.

2fm needs talk shows, just not ones presented by Tubridy and Hayes.

It's hard to argue with this when you look down through the list of top 30 shows, they are mostly talk. My only doubt here would be that a lot of the music driven radio during the day comes from regional or local stations which on their own wouldnt be able to make the numbers to appear on the top 30 shows. But if you added together the numbers of listeners to the mid-morning music shows on say IRadio, Beat, SPIN, etc it could be significant.

It could be, but would a music only 2fm be able to attract enough people away from IRadio, Beat and SPIN to come up to those sort of numbers. It would lose a fair amount of existing listeners, so it would have to attract a lot of new ones. I'm not so sure it could.

Looking at the top 30 programmes, 90 % are on RTE 1 and yes they are talk dominated. However you cannot ignore the fact that 2FM has totally wasted the opportunity to be the only state wide exclusively music station. If it was, then you most probably would see 2FM more prominant in the top 30 programmes. As Ive said repeatedly, young listeners are listening to FM104, spin 1038, spin south west, beat, iradio around the country in the absence of an irish BBC radio 1. If you were able to add up all the aforementioned stations' listeners on a monday lunchtime I'm fairly sure you'd have a very impressive listenership. Its a stretch of the imagination I know but would illustrate quite how in the absence of a national music station the locals are making a killing.

Currently 2FM is essentially trying to be all things to all people, much like a regional station in that they have a wacky breakfast, midmorning talk shows, oldies shows, sports programmes, hot hits shows, dance shows.
    Its crazy.

Look at the most successful youth music stations in the country, Fm104, spin 1038 and red fm, their schedules are 90% music except for the obligatory talk component of their license. Their listeners know if they want music and only music thats where to go, their message as a station is clear as are their identities and thats reflected in their figures.

There is a massive youth demographic in this country. The fact that its not whatsoever being catered for by a state wide radio station let alone our own national broadcaster which has money to burn is a criminal waste.

The problem is 2fm would have to fire 95% of It's presenters if it wanted to be an Irish BBC radio 1, Even the youngest weekday presenters on 2fm Will Leahy and Rick oshea would be a bit old now for a youth station.
