Elm Green

I decided to go to Elm Green today. What a waste of time. Went early so they were out cutting. Was on green about to putt when the drove across my putt line. Next hole kept cutting while putting. This went on a bit. Went in to complain and was spoken to rudely. Really a place to avoid. A lesson in courtesy is needed.

Was the first club I was ever a member of and couldn't recommend it enough I must say...

Its a €15-€20 quid casual round type of course. Its ok, for what it is: a "real" golf course with par 3's, par 4's and par 5's very close to the city.

One thing which really bugs me is they don't collect the cuttings, so if you are unlucky (and I have been on more than one occasion) you can manage to lose your ball on the fairway or the light rough.

Would not really be bothered playing it any more, but its a handy place to learn or get a casual round in.

Isn't that the place where the greenfee is 'all you can play ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 253 ✭✭padzer

Rang this place on tuesday to see if i could get on wednesdays open timesheet. The lad said no problem that if i turned up about 9am hed get me out. Arrived on time to be told by some grumpy oul lad that it wasnt his responsibility to get me out and that if i wanted a game id have to hang around the teebox n see if any1 would let me join their group n they were not obliged to so i cud be waiting 2 or3 hours.

What kind of carryon is that? I asked 2 groups and it turned out they werent in the comp so i took evasive action n rang citywest who sorted me out.

I used to enjoy elmgreen because it was close to the house and cheap n cheerful, but i wont be going back.

It's a course that I played quite a bit a few years ago when starting out and I'd highly recommend it for someone doing the same.
Have to say that I never had a bad experience up there but I don't think I'd be going back for a casual round soon... There's just way better value in the area.

Lots of highly regarded golf courses dont collect grass cuttings. The cut grass decomposes and acts as a natural fertiliser. Unless they are leaving hay around the place it shouldnt create any issues

If your looking for a game in that area again. Try black bush out in dunshaughlin. Only 15 minutes out from there but a lovely course. I joined it back in februrary and loving every minute off it. Friendly pro shop staff. Challenging course. Good members.
    Cheers

I think Elm Green is the sort of place everybody plays now and again when starting out but once you experience other courses you rarely go back there. Not a bad course just not a good course. Have to say the few times I played there didnt have any particularly bad experiences with anyone.

Losing a ball in the first cut is an issue, is it not?

Why would you not believe me? Im not a member in a Dublin club but went for a game there. I ve not had a bad experience in many courses, in Dub recently Castleknock and Luttrelstown were great. Friendly staff and recommend them

Being a newcomer to the sport and needing a handicap I'm gonna sign up for the 6 month membership and try and get some practice in.

Some of you worrying me about it now though but I am a 100+ golfer at the minute so not that picky.

Also anybody a member there, would appreciate getting in a round with you if possible. Would help me a lot as I don't know other members there and need my three cards. :)

I wouldn't be worried at all, it is ideal for you really.
    Best of luck with it.

How much is the 6 month membership?
I just became a member in Donabate GC. €300 for 6 months. Really can't go wrong with that. Only if you're between 20 and 30 though

Its €240 for 7 day/6 months membership but that still has you paying €10 green fees

Here is the link Membership Options

No green fees in Donabate. 7day membership. 4 of us have just joined in the last month. Really friendly members and most of the staff seem fine. If it's somewhere you can get to I'd highly recommend taking a trip out to check it out.
